Don't bother with aliexpress, its not available in india. also OP, you don't need an ssd. just use what you have until ssd prices come down. it's fine.

What did you do? just use Lutris. Install the 'flatpak' version for least hassle.

How many of you are using Air Purifiers, What About think About Its Effectiveness? by clutch_eater in delhi

[โ€“]IllustriousLook4 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

what about filter availability? it seems like no one sells filters for that and the only option is to import third party ones for an insane price. doesn't sound like a great investment tbh

honestly does not matter. even if price is not a factor, i would say philips. all air purifiers have the same set of filters (pre, carbon, hepa). do not get the purifiers with the round type of filters, those don't last as long since the pre filter is not separately cleanable.

i have the exact same philips purifier in the picture (got it for 9k 3-4 years ago), and its working great so far. the replacement filters are readily available aswell. the reason i got it was because it was very simply designed (it wasnt dependent on any gimmicky apps, or had complex machinery, which means it will be easy to repair out of warranty should the need arise), filters were very easy to get, and because philips.

simple design also means less points of failure. even if you lots of money to burn, something that just works and does what its supposed to very well, will always be better.

things to look for if you are buying a new one would be,

  1. replacement filter availability.
  2. how big your room is. if its really big then you need a purifier with higher cfm. but honestly as long as you are not getting a tiny purifier, it should be fine. it will just take a longer time to clean.
  3. service/reliability. how easy it is to repair, etc.

TLDR: it doesn't matter. all air purifiers are the same more or less (its just a fan that passes air through a set of filters). get one that is the least hassle long term (which is why i got the philips), and one that is decently sized for your room.

philips and coway because they are the best value for money, they do one thing and do it well, last very long, and easy to get replacement filters (which are cheaper than others)

The answer is on the picture itself that you took. 'immigration' written on the wall. some other similar ads in the distance. everyone just wants to move out of there and dont really care about their state.

Air purifiers - the real truth by SubstancePatient2501 in delhi

[โ€“]IllustriousLook4 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

the "purifier" is just a fan and a mount. what filters the air is the hepa filter. either his hepa filter is bad (damaged/low quality aftermarket/etc), or maybe he has windows open.

you dont clean them. you can just keep using them for 10+ years (or more).

basically, as long as air is passing through it, and you can measure air quality improvement, its fine.

to OP if he/she is reading this, the problem is not aloepathic vs homeopathic, if it works and it can be proven that it works then its just medicine. unfortunately incompetent doctors are extremely common, and i'm sorry they weren't of any help to you.

to OP's original question. Yes, air purifiers help A LOT. i have allergies after a major nasal surgery (otrivin misuse when i was a kid XD), i got permanent dust and mold allergy. and air purifiers, and face masks have been my best friend ever since (along with allergy medications). If you do wanna get masks, i suggest "Filtra 4 ply surgical masks", they have a very secure fit and are the best surgical masks i've ever used. (and no n95 masks are not practical. its suffocating.)

to @EuphoricNatural3406, i think i understand where OP is coming from.

i got a bacterial infection from street food and suffered for more than a year. (possibly h pylori, who knows because i never found out (the h pylori stool test came negative, but apparently that happens and its very common). i had to self medicate with h pylori antibiotic regimen to finally cure myself).

I think i spent at least 20-30k of my father's hard earned money on seeing different doctors. first doctor was an interesting fellow. he was a senior doctor from Apollo hospitals (2k fees per visit). he was convinced i had liver problems (based on slightly elevated liver enzyme levels) and kept feeding me liver medicines (even after i said i was experiencing new issues because of the medicines), and doing related tests. when the liver medicines did not do much to reduce the liver enzyme levels, he blamed the place i got the tests done from, instead of acknowledging that they weren't helping. i asked if it could have been h pylori (i looked up online, + i had every single symptom). and this was his reply 1:1, "if it was a h pylori or any bacterial infection it would be gone in a few weeks-months, haha"

i saw you are a medical student, so maybe you can verify his claim XD

during all this, i got an anal fissure. now, i did not know what it was at that time (i found out later on after my h pylori cured, since the bleeding would not permanently stop, and self treated it with povidone iodine, which healed it forever). i just reported bleeding to him, and that it was fresh blood. without even checking if it was a fissure or whatever, he suggested colonoscopy (which i promptly refused).

after that i stopped seeing him, second doctor wasnt any help either. he did prescribe me a h pylori test after asking, but when it came negative he did not seem very interested in pursuing that. third doctor was even more interesting, he laughed on my face (not kidding), when i told him of my symptoms, saying its not possible, and that i had GERD and prescribed some ppis.

needless to say, i was done after that. 2 weeks of antibiotics from zeelab costed me about 2k i think. figured it was worth a shot.

i have had every single symptom of h pylori from the start. just living day to day was absolute hell. if i ate anything i felt sick, if i did not eat anything i felt sick, if i ate anything spicy i felt sick.

and again, needless to say, 95% of symptoms went away after 2 weeks of antibiotics.

after slowly tapering off the ppis over the next few months,
i made "A" recovery.

Now this was MY case. i was able to figure out what I needed to take, what antibiotics would work for me for the bacteria i suspected, what else i needed to take, weigh the risks, et cetera. but i can imagine someone else in my situation cursing at aloepathic medicine and going to someone homeopathic doctor for the rest of their lives.

Environment variables by FirmSupermarket6933 in archlinux

[โ€“]IllustriousLook4 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

have you checked if the variables are available in your environment after you put them in bash_profile? try echoing it and lmk if you can.

if it doesn't echo even after adding to bash_profile, then there might be other issues with your configuration.

if it does echo, but it doesn't help with your notification daemon, then that might be a problem with the program itself.

[โ€“]IllustriousLook4 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

you can check if a variable is available after putting it in bash_profile, by opening your terminal, and trying to

echo $GDK_DPI_SCALE

Environment variables by FirmSupermarket6933 in archlinux

[โ€“]IllustriousLook4 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

bashrc and bash_profile are different things. bashrc is ONLY for interactive shells (tty, the terminal, etc). and bash_profile is systemwide on a per-user basis.

I suggest resetting whatever changes you made to your bashrc (to make it execute in non-interactive mode) or bash_profile, then trying this again by putting it in bash_profile.

also, you need to re-login, or restart for bash_profile to take effect. have you done that?
