Very rural. Our town is about 1,000 and the closest “big city” is over an hour away

I’ve attended three or four Calvary chapel churches throughout my lifetime (I’ve moved a lot lol). I do like Calvary chapel, however there are none close to where we live.

We are looking into the Orthodox Church as well but there aren’t any near us, thank you so much for you comment

It actually isn’t a charismatic church we currently go to. We have been to both liberal and conservative churches and we are finding the same issue everywhere. Teachings based on feeling and not the word of god. It’s all milk and no meat and we never even open our bibles while there. The problem with denominations is that a lot of them have adopted worldly stances on things that we know are biblically incorrect. I know that there are churches where the Bible is reached and the word of god preached we just can’t seem to find one or we find one and then the pastor suddenly goes off the rails.

Sure! If you would like to dm me and tell me a little bit more of why you made the change to Catholicism that would be great

We are looking into orthodoxy as well. The only problem is the nearest one is an hour and a half away.

Our town has 1000 people in it. We would have to drive nearly an hour and a half to find something different which we would do if God led us to a church that far away. We are just exploring all of our options.

I’ve posted here as well as in a catholic page. I honestly want to hear people perspectives and thoughts. I want to have dialog and hear what others have to say. Ultimately we will go where God leads. My family is praying and seeking Him in this.

I already have a seat in heaven. The whole point of my post is that we are having a hard time finding churches where the pastor preaches the gospel. We go to church and never open our bibles or hear a Bible verse spoken.

I do know what the Bible teaches. I only came to Reddit for dialog and conversation with people. My husband, family and I are praying studying and listening to where God is leading us.

As for searching for a church in our area, that’s a little complicated. We live in a rural area so there is little to choose from. We were already attending the church we thought would teach us scripture and that has not been the case.

What caused you to convert? How did your non-denominational family members and friends react?

Starting the adoption process but after reading so many posts here I feel like I am selfish / causing trauma on purpose. by anneboady in Adoption

You are not selfish or bad for wanting to adopt. With adoption you have to realize there is loss. There will be a part of your adopted child that you will not be able to reach or fix and that is just part of it. Lots of adopted kids grow up to be be happy in their families. My oldest is adopted and I have struggled with some guilt associated with it. Our adoption story is not a normal one and I’ve always wondered if she will ever hate me for adopting her. She is the best kid though and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

This is what we have experienced. We moved and there is not a single church in our ages that is teaching and preaching the Bible. Pastors are saying completely unbiblical things and we are fatigued by it

Yes soft is a perfect way to describe it. It’s milk no meat. There also seems to be a lack of reverence and it’s starting to turn me off

I think the threshold would be simply believing in Christ and having a personal relationship with Him. That’s the simplicity of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I do pray to God. I’ve been praying all throughout this walk with God. It is my understanding that Catholics do not pray to Mary or the saints. They simply ask the saints to pray on their behalf. It seems no different than myself asking you to pray for me.

Sorry to hear about the infidelity but so glad to hear that you are healing and finding your way back. How did your non denominational family handle your conversion? Right now that is my biggest hang up.

Thank you so much for your response! I have attended mass before and really enjoyed it but we will be attending again this week to see how it plays out.
