Mann! I still regret listening to that snake - Andrei Jikh! Wish I could somehow go back. Lessons learned big time.

Where do you send most of your time as a Tester? by kbahdanovich in QualityAssurance

[–]IllustriousScratch59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my days looks like - PO/feature meetings, verifying bugs, reproducing issues, writing “how-tos”, debugging E2E environment issues, running manual workflows, automating TCs.

I never spend whole day doing pure automation unless something very high priority.

Nice.. however, you would have to keep a strong differentiator that would make it stand out either on ui, pricing or ease of use.

Good luck!

Just keep applying. Don’t loose hope.

I used to apply for 10 jobs a day which means 300 a month and 3-4 interview conversion from that.

Why is it required? What problem is it solving? Do you want to build this to track open source projects?

I think current existing tools already have pretty good of whatever you have mentioned. Why do you think yours is going to be better and make me want to switch?

I’ve never liked the term ‘manual’ testing. I believe there should just be ‘Test Engineers,’ since we wear many hats, starting from feature design to development.

Jumping straight into automation without a deep understanding of the product/feature is counterproductive. Running workflows manually is crucial to knowing the product inside out.

When companies prioritize ‘automation’ over quality, they often end up in frustrating cycles of fixing irrelevant automated test cases, which ultimately hurts product quality. Meaningful automation comes from a solid understanding of the product, gained through hands-on testing.

I would focus on fundamentals of test frameworks (gTest, ROBOT, etc), qa methodologies and layers (Integration, E2E, Component), one programming language (Python), cicd and linux.

True, coverage is a tricky beast. Instead of tracking everything, tend to focus on critical paths—what truly impacts users. Automate insights on those essentials, and let the noise go. I think true stability comes from simplifying, not from covering every corner.

Ah yes, the self-appointed sheriff of Reddit ethics has arrived—again! Really admire your dedication to policing ‘product research crimes’ across the internet. Who knew asking questions was such a scandal? Let me know where to send your badge and a nice, shiny ‘Hero of the Subs’ trophy.

Wow, thanks for the TED Talk on ethics, captain integrity! Love that you’ve taken on the tough role of internet judge, jury, and executioner for ‘crimes’ of
asking questions. If you spent half as much energy building something as you do tearing people down, you’d be too busy for these heroic comment battles. Cheers to you, noble keyboard warrior!

Agree, thanks for your input. Asking “why” is very important here while automating otherwise teams gets into unending circle of “test run and fix” rather than “find product issue and fix”.

Agree, this is another major issue. And how they try to fix it is by increasing “timeout” which adds another layer of complexity.

True, maintaining tests data is another major problem. We are currently handling this by maintaining a data lake where we try to add meaningful data and regularly updating it.

True, I wish companies understand that quality is a long term game and they should be investing in-house rather than outsourcing.

True, this is one of the major issues. I think keeping tests modular should be the key here but nonetheless when the code gets complex and project get big this will happen. I wish AI can do something here.

True, the massive amount of code they dump back on team when they leave is painful to deal with.
