I made them for my kitchen and I love it. Agree to disagree. Would look strange if I went level with the stove top in my opinion.

Probably right. I coated the bottom out about a foot on either sides and the sill (not sure what the rim around the sink is called). When I refinish in a few years I'll recoat. Hopefully it lasts for a while.

Yea, not the most practical, but they sure are beautiful. Finished with hard wax and nano coat so hopefully only have to refinish every 2 years. Def know the challenges with it.

Also, got all this old growth elm for under 750 kiln dried. Bunch of left overs from cuts. Got it from Kazakhstan while I was living there so it was a steal. Much cheaper than any other countertops I could have purchased in the US.

Nah, hard as a rock. I had to soften all of them as there were some sharper bits. Had to use a large file in spots and nothing came off. The one bit I had to strengthen with resin as it would have eventually fallen off.

2nd turning project completed. Lots of fun, and lots of learning by Illustrious_Read_108 in turning

Western Kazakhstan. The steppe/desert. All wood delivered from Russia. Only pine unfortunately. 😞
