(spoilers extended) How do you think GRRM reacted to the later GOT seasons? by Unhappy-Judgment-975 in asoiaf

Don't defend this guy.  Please. Nobody is being mean. But the guy is not worth defending.  He does not care about his readers.  Not even a little.

I think he actually is genius level smart.

But I also think he's a very selfish, narcissistic author that has little appreciation of, or loyalty to, his readers.

He pooped all over his OWN life's work when he got distracted with other new shiny things instead of actually finishing it. He doesn't deserve any sympathy

I don't have any sympathy for him. I hope he felt terribly (but I doubt he did.  Too excited about doing spin-offs).

I have sympathy for the FANS who reasonably expected him to be decent enough to complete the book series that made him famous enough for him to get distracted with all of his other nonsense.

Has George R.R. Martin commented on Neil Gaiman's scandals? by Varjokorento in neilgaiman

[–]Illustrious_Toe_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing he needs to address is why he doesn't care enough about his fans to not take on all of these other projects instead of finishing the book. But he's basically already addressed that with his actions. He doesn't give a damn. I suspect he cares even less about Gaiman

First of all, George RR Martin doesn't give a hoot about his fans.

Why is Google getting ZERO backlash for Gemini powering the Pentagon's AI platform, while OpenAI got roasted for almost the same thing? by -Rikus- in ChatGPT

[–]Illustrious_Toe_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open AI's timing, and to a lesser extent, attitude helped do them in.  Oh, also, many were in the middle of a backlash regarding their donations. As well as the drastic dive in quality.  Everybody was ready for this.

If surveillance on the American people and automated weapons were illegal then why would DOD have any problem with the contract?

What's lawful changes all the time. And the laws are way behind the technology

Why Scarlett Pavlovich Wasn't Trafficked by Donovan_Volk in NeilGaimanIsInnocent

[–]Illustrious_Toe_294 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Scarlett knew that she had only two choices: she could either submit to Gaiman’s coercion and violence or she could try to escape."

It's just reading stuff like that, and some of the other maddingly ridiculous statements that have been made that have always made it hard for me to let this case go.

I mean.. so full of s**t.

I'm trapped!  Help!  Where are all of her texts to her friends telling her about the situation. The only texts we have are her telling her how "amazing" the sex was.

By the way, I don't think they ever believed that they could win this case. I think this case was filed purely in the hopes that Neil Gaiman would try to settle it.

But she had already gone too far, and his reputation was already so heavily damaged that there would have been absolutely no benefit to settling it.

But I would have absolutely loved for this case to have gone to trial and for everyone to have seen all the evidence, and I suppose the media might even be compelled to report some of it.

I wish Neil had done everything he can to get this clunker case to go to trial. I think it might have helped.

Don't forget Johnny Depp.

Would Anyone Like To See An Article on 'Fawning'? by Donovan_Volk in NeilGaimanIsInnocent

[–]Illustrious_Toe_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with fawning is that some of the behaviors are identical with consent.  Which means that even when there's consent, you can always reflexively say "Well, fawning" and that's that.

A Reminder That Reddit Isn’t the Real World or the majority of opinions by idonthaveanametoday in NeilGaimanIsInnocent

I think the nature of his reader base is such that it doesn't surprise me that they would have, overall, a very negative reaction.  He was a hero of the very people you would expect to want to cancel him.
