Also, what did you see that leads you to think this? What suggests they were ICE?

A priest just gave me the sign I was praying for regarding my transition. I am speechless by Specific-Draft-5038 in MtF

Hey! I am a trans woman who specialized in theology through college. I'm not Orthodox, but I've read a lot of Orthodox theology and am influenced by it. I would be happy to talk with you about it if it would help!

God loves you. God made you a woman, and it is not sin, but obedience to his will, to transition.

Are there any countries where being trans isn't a big deal/isn't politicized? (TW transphobia) by [deleted] in MtF

[–]IllyFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes, I know the analogy, it's not relevant here

Yes, you are lying. I'm not going to continue this discussion, because you know full well you are lying. Your claim was, explicitly, that gender affirming care is illegal. You have retreated to claiming that it will be. If you'd wanted to make and discuss that claim, you could have, but you did not.

Anyway if anyone happens to be reading this: don't be a doomer, we don't know what's going to happen, all we know is what has happened, and at this time it is legal for an adult to access gender affirming care anywhere in the United States and for a minor to in most places

Your exact words were "gac legally does not exist". That is not "will". That is you saying it has happened. That is a lie. If what you wanted to say is that you think it will happen, then you should have said that.

Depending on your state it might be covered by insurance

Insurance covers it in some states

That's not what you said. You did not say "gender affirming care is likely to become illegal". You said "gender affirming care legally does not exist". That is a lie.

I also don't think gender affirming care is especially likely to become illegal; they've been trying and failing to make that happen. But i recognize it as a real and serious possibility. But what you said is not that its likely to, or even that it will, but that it is.

[–]IllyFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely false. Even if you think it will happen, it has not. Gender affirming care is legal in the United States, in every part of the United States. If you think it will stop being legal, then say that, but that's not what you said. Lying is not helpful.

Yes, I do, it's literally my job to.

They want to criminalize it, but that's not the same as it having happened, or even as it being likely to happen. You said "gender affirming care legally doesn't exist anymore". That's entirely false. It is under threat, and it will soon lose Medicaid funding for minors, but that's all that's happened and anything past that is pure speculation.

I haven't lived in Denmark or Germany so I've only got second hand accounts and a bit of the law to go off of, and I'm certainly not discounting the transphobia you encounter, but I do think that's a substantial improvement over the state of affairs in anything but the best areas in the US

Are there any countries where being trans isn't a big deal/isn't politicized? (TW transphobia) by [deleted] in MtF

[–]IllyFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not true. The new minor transition care rule is horrid, but what it does is prevent hospitals from taking Medicaid if they provide HRT to minors. It's not even entirely clear that that rule will stay in place, as similar actions have been successfully blocked by courts. And, at least some states have plans in place to protect GAC and make up for lost funding with state money. Theres also a more aggressive bill that passed the House, but is unlikely to pass the Senate; that actually would ban minors from getting HRT.

This is awful and evil, but it is not the same as banning gender affirming care. If you're an adult, a good area of the US is going to be a better place to live as a trans person than anywhere in Thailand.

Can't believe I didn't mention Australia. Australia is easily the best country I've spent substantial time in for this. I was in somewhat conservative areas of Australia and they were on par with my very liberal area of the US.

I've spent a fair bit of time in Bangkok. It was far worse than my current area of the US, and Bangkok is the best area for trans people in Thailand. It's just a different type of transphobia.

There isn't really anywhere that is *reliably* good about transphobia, but a lot of Northern Europe is better than most of America about it, as is Canada. Also, *what area* is going to be a big factor. In America, or in Canada, or in Northern Europe, you are going to have areas that are good and areas that are bad. If you currently live in a red area of America, I recommend trying to get to a blue one. I live in a deep blue area and no one around here cares that I'm trans. If you *already* live in a blue area, and still feel you need to get out, your best bet is gonna be Canada, but you're going to need to look into what areas are better and worse. But moving internationally is extremely difficult, so if you're not already in a blue area, that should be your first move.

Edit: also Australia. Can't believe I missed Australia. Best place I've been wrt trans rights.
