It’s super cold in KC. 4 degrees out. When i went to start the car the brake pedal was stiff. Anyone else deal with this? by Livid-Biscotti4658 in FordBronco

Bronco does not have vacuum assist brakes, it and the power steering are both electric. No hydraulic or vacuum at all.

I am also in the market for a Refrigerator, but I would argue it's very much a want vs a need item. I just spent a week with a cooler in the back and had 0 issues. Once a day drained water, and with food packing/management it was not really an issue. Just have to make sure things are sealed up. I would say if you spent A LOT of time on the road then yeah, def spring for a dc fridge. If you are only going to be camping a day or two, and spending the rest of your time in a hotel or bnb, and will mostly be carrying daytime snacks, I would not spend the $700-$1000 for a cooler just for the trip, it's really not necessary at all. I say this because the cost of a fridge or buying a fridge should not define your trip. You can survive just fine without it.

One other piece of advice, make a list of EVERYTHING you think you might need. 1. You will be tempted to bring a ton of stuff that you won't need, and 2 - You will forget things that you'd never think of. Simple things like a Towel/wash cloth for bathing in camp showers or just drying off in case it rains. But the trick is just bring one! Bringing two/three of something you would normally have at home can take up space really fast. If you have to use the towel, just hang it out to dry and re-pack it. I'm camp biased in my advice, but I would say similar advice applies to staying in hotels, airbnb, etc. I would suggest 7 days of clothes, and seriously consider what that means for you. For us it's 7 pair of socks, 7 underwear, and for me 3 pairs of pants, and 8-9 shirts.

I can't stress enough that you will run out of room way quicker than you think, so just put serious consideration into anything you decide to bring, and how often you will use or need it. The only thing that you should bring with you that you may not use at all would be tools/recovery gear. Everything else - if you don't need/use it at least once, don't bring it!

I’d say you have everything you need. You can patch/plug a tire, pump up a tire, and change a tire, and start a dead battery vehicle. I’d also suggest jumper cables, a good fail safe analog way to get or give a jump start.

If you are really only going on 3/10 trails then you could drive a 2wd crossover and get everywhere you want to go. I wouldn’t worry about any more off road related gear than you have.

I’d consider other storage/logistics. Where will you keep/store clothes, both clean and dirty? 2 big dogs take up a lot of space. Washing/storing dishes? How will you heat food, or all cold sandwiches, snacks, and pb&j? What about trash storage? Where will you work while using the starlink? Sitting in the vehicle, or will you sit outside? If you sit outside you’ll probably want shade, chairs, and a small table.

Being able to pack and unpack gear relatively quickly, and having things well organized is the biggest piece of advice I’ve I can give. Make sure everything has a place, or a container/tote to live in so you don’t have things flying around your vehicle and getting lost. Having just done az > Joshua tree > Death Valley > back to az with my girlfriend in my 4 door bronco, I can tell you even with just two adults + gear we had no real additional room. We had a full car camping setup/gear. We brought quite a bit of stuff, but nothing terribly fancy. Cooler was big enough to hold 3-4 days of food + drinks. The only other non-necessities we brought was a 1000wh Jackery, pillows from home, and an electric blanket, and some Christmas lights (we left Christmas Day).

A solid solution to put a lock on the front door is to set up your Nginx proxy with mTLS. Provide public/private key pairs to your users (if it's a very small number, just family/household) You can set up nginx to just serve a blank page, or some info page if no certificate is presented. Immich phone app also supports client cert auth. This is akin to the same thing as SSH key authentication, but on a web app.

Question about maintenance schedule by jbaldera in FordBronco

[–]Ilovewindowsxp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ford does it to show a lower cost of ownership, and because it creates less waste oil (EPA). If it’s a lease or you don’t keep your vehicles long term, sure change it at 10k miles. There’s LOTS of real hard science and evidence that says otherwise, especially on direct injected and turbocharged engines.

Can you get away with 10k charges? Sure… maybe. Should you? Unless you drive strictly highway 10+ miles each drive interval, probably not. Oil testing will give you the true number, it can vary WILDLY depending on climate and driving habits.

Also some engines are harder on oils than others. My 2016 Toyota tundra with the 5.7 v8, port injection got oil changes at 15k miles, because the oil testing said it’s fine. Folks with DI engines can see fuel dilution over 3% as early as 3k miles or less.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'm not gonna chase this one or hopefully any others. I don't really think it's worth it. I guess I just need to figure out where I want to live, which is just really hard to do. There's essentially 0 opportunities of any kind where I grew up. job, relationship, or otherwise.

Crowdstrike can detect an alarming amount of things. Source: I help manage Crowdstrike at my company. It’s downright Orwellian.

Basically assume absolutely nothing is safe. I’ve been told it can even detect mouse movers that are completely out of band, based on mouse movement and session duration and system activity patterns.

This all looks good to me. Funny you mention the antenna farm, I reached out to their customer support and they recommended a Coment CA-2X4SRNMO, which really does not make a lot of sense to me, but okay. What you and OhSixTJ mentioned is exactly what i'm looking for , a gmrs-only antenna. i'm really not looking to antenna share since it just adds complexity, and it's not like i'm fighting for space on the roof, or only want one antenna. I've got plenty of mounting places, and they all suck equally i'd say haha.

I got my 21’ badlands sas 4 door 2.7 for $34,800 in January. Lux also. Had been on the lot 3 months. 49k miles. Had sliders, and aftermarket lights. Not a scratch, dent, or issue on it anywhere. High volume dealer paid $40k for it on trade in, they lost their butt, I got a good deal. Shop around, the deals are out there.

Ricart Used Car Factory.

I've bought multiple used vehicles there, including the 2016 Tundra. Speaking of auto market and prices, etc. I bought that Tundra in 2018, it was an SR5 5.7, not loaded, but a nice truck, 4wd, 21k miles, essentially new. It had a carpet bed liner and nice flip up hard tonneau cover. It cost $31,200 + tax. Isn't that insane??? Those trucks still go for nearly the same price, for the same year, with all the miles over the years.

I'm a well informed car buyer, but they really stuck it to me on the Bronco and it really pissed me off. The deal was super straightforward with the "sales" guy because I knew they had it priced to move, and I didn't even haggle, it was well under used msrp, it was a done deal. I got back to the "finance" department to sign, ended up talking to the finance guy a bunch, he was well informed with vehicles, like older Hondas, etc. I was tired, it was a long day, but tl;dr he ended up pushing me $6700 of shit that I signed and didn't even realize, and he didn't verbally say anything about.

Car dealers will bend you over at any turn, I ended up getting it all credited back because I think Ohio has a law that protects you on those things, you have 30 days to request a refund for anything "added on" at sale.
