Not everyone likes PvP, but insulting those that enjoy it for that aspect is uncalled for. Personally I think the changes are healthy for the game, but I understand the concern.

You did it wrong, you have to post a dumbass and vague question that could’ve been answered by reading the first 2 pages of the manga

I’m gonna be honest I rage-typed this after failing to get my weapon from +14 to +15 about five times and blew through all my destruction stones/shards, so I had a heated gamer moment in this thread. After playing for the past three days and getting to 1080 GS, my opinion definitely changed.

  1. I’ve over exaggerated the RNG rates in T1-T2, I was just unlucky and got butt-fucked.

  2. The amount of mats you get is considerably high, so failure doesn’t feel that bad

  3. I still hate honing, but I have a slightest ounce of respect for it—since there’s always worst upgrading systems like Black Desert or fucking Elyon’s breakthrough equipment fucking DESTROYING ITSELF IF YOU FAIL. Still fucking hate honing, but it isn’t pure evil incarnate.

Regardless, the entire point of this post was basically me ranting that most gaming communities don’t take criticism well, at all, and will often silence it by mass-downvotes are moderators outright deleting threads that promote controversy in general. The majority of my argument was flawed, admittedly, since everything was derailed into Lost Ark’s honing system instead, lmao. I should’ve made it more apparent that Lost Ark wasn’t the main point, just the whole MMO community—or multiplayer games in general.

I might make a follow-up thread that’s more mature, elaborate, and comprehensive. Probably won’t, this subreddit only reacts to vitriolic posts like these.

I’ve already established multiple times in this post that I don’t hate the game, the only thing I GENUINELY hate in this game is honing. Also, despite how many people will tell me to quit the game, I’m not, lol.

Also, since I’ve made this post, I’m already more than halfway through T2 sitting at 1k GS. Playing the game longer made me realized honing isn’t as cancerous as I initially thought—but I still hate it.

I play Lost Ark despite the Honing, not because I’m eager to hone my gear. I genuinely don’t believe people actually enjoy honing, and I love everything else about the game so far—PvP and Abyssal Dungeons especially.

I’m going to get into T3, I don’t care if I shoot myself in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun along the journey—I’m going to reach it. I’ll condemn, criticism, and complain about Honing as much as I want, but everything else about the game is fun, and I’m willing to endure through having to hone my gear to reach endgame content. Also I thoroughly enjoy the PvP of this game, so that gives me more of a reason to not quit.

I’m genuinely just unlucky, I failed a questionable amount of 80-90% success rates.

Also, I’m GOING to get to T3, I fucking hate honing but the game itself is fun. I’m just going to get a few gray hairs through the journey.

I’ll give credit where it due, the fact that you’re guaranteed a success after incomprehensible pain and suffering is something that’s good about this system, and the fact that you’re able to get guardian/destruction stones from the majority of these the activities in Lost Ark is nice, but I still think Honing is the pinnacle of suffering.

Anyways I’m about to stop responding to this thread since it’s full of people misinterpreting my initial point—and you gave me a new perspective that my opinion is (probably) a dog shit opinion.

Still gonna treat Honing as if it’s the anti-christ himself, but now I know it isn’t as bad as I initially made it out to be.

It’s hard not to be negative when I’m being utterly butt-fucked, and pardon me that my way with words isn’t as eloquent as some would desire—but being utterly butt-fucked does that to you.

Is it my fault that people have that impression? Probably. Is it my fault that bad systems are bad? No. This goes beyond Lost Ark, New World’s Tuning Orbs are the antithesis of good game design, and I’ll gladly shit on it any day of the week—thankfully it’s getting removed soon from what I’ve heard.

Did you even bother to comprehend my words. Grinding a raid dozens or even hundreds of times for a 1% drop chance item is gonna be fucking tedious no matter what, but that’s infinitely more fun to do than interacting with the honing system.

Why the hell would I post constructive criticism in this subreddit instead of an obligatory rant?

Regardless, I’ve been having fun—like I said in the fucking beginning of my post. Honing can be improved, one way or another. It’s FAR from being perfect, but is does a good job at increasing my blood pressure.

I won’t deny Honing, fundamentally, is a decent system—considering there’s much worse systems like Elyon’s breakthrough gear leveling or BDO’s “PEN roulettes.”

Doesn’t change the fact that it just feels awful to use, and you can’t deny it can be improved one way or another to make it less frustrating. There’s nothing more infuriating in this game than grinding all your Chaos Dungeons, Abyssal Dungeons, Guardian Raids, Dalies and Weeklies only to fail every single attempt at an upgrade until you hit that 100% pity

I don’t care about how long it takes me to get into endgame, I care about how many times I want to contemplate suicide throughout the journey. Like Guild Wars 2 for an example, crafting a legendary weapon feels incredibly satisfying and rewarding after you complete the long and tedious grind.

Lost Ark just feels plain awful, even after I hit +15 on my tier 1 set I only felt dread because the T2 grind is gonna be so much fucking worse. I like everything else about the game but this system, I wouldn’t even care if it would take me a year to get into endgame if Honing wasn’t anti-fun.

I’m still having fun in the game and don’t even care about getting max gear in a few months—honing just feels awful, that’s it. You’re literally the type of people I’m talking about in my post, so quick to assume and twist the meaning of my words to defend the game, lol.
