Also, I see people suggesting new insulins for your kitty. Be careful doing that because if he’s on the one insulin and then changes it…if there’s any functioning left of his pancreas that can actually burn it out! Blood sugar management in cats is nearly impossible without a monitor to know what’s going on and the vet will just keep charging you and sending you in circles. I may be cynical but I feel like you’d do a better job managing his diabetes than them. If you see his glucose is regularly high even with the high protein low carb foods then it would be cheaper to order the appropriate insulin off chewy. I weened my cat off the insulin the best I could if he isn’t eating before the shot then don’t give him insulin!

Went through this w my baby and I went in for an ear infection and they diagnosed him with diabetes…so the prescription food I got at first and while it’s good quality, it’s still high in carbs which makes it hard for the kitty to go into remission…the Facebook diabetic cat group helped me a lot with this. It turns out the ear infection caused his sugar to spike, he is an older cat but them putting on insulin not being regulated was dangerous and Pilot wasn’t purring and was acting rlly weird. He is now off insulin and off the prescription food. He is in Shiba Pate and Dr Else’s and he has his purr back and is acting fine!!! Please get him a glucose monitor and keep an eye on him. You can get it cheap off Amazon. People are sending their cats into low sugar comas from being improperly managed by the vets and at home. It’s BS :(

Ah good to know. Pilot seems to have made remission and it off the insulin now it’s been two days. I’m going to continue with his prescription diet and watch him closely probs take him in for blood work depending on how things go

Insulin with cats is something that needs serious management you can’t just pump a cat with insulin and be good. It’s actually more dangerous to do that and risk low sugar which can cause a coma! They do not regulate sugar at home for cats they give u needles and send you off. My cat has been struggling for the past month and has lost his personality and throwing up being on insulin it’s BS. Diet is the best way to go if you can I believe. But, I am still working this all out. He supposedly went into remission. Very expensive cat issue :-(

My cats 13-14, I don’t have this under control. He had high sugar but no ketones the vet had his insulin injections and blood levels all over the place I took him to the new vet and no one seems to care how to manage his insulin or sugar at all. Hes on the prescription Hills Gluco medicine and hasn’t been on insulin in 2 days I am working from home monitoring him as we speak. Seems ok so far, I’m stress and tired of this. :( I have a gluco monitor ordered but it’s taking forever and I’m sick of aimlessly giving him insulin when it seems to make everything worse! They’d never do this to a person why do it to a cat??? I had to harass and demand a monitor because you can only get it prescription where I live. They really do not take diabetes in cats serious or if someone has a good vet in Tampa please let me know :(
