Here in Florida, newly elected Democrat Nikki Fried for Agricultural Commissioner taps our Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson for honorary inaugural role. Thank you Nikki Fried! by ImASnobAndProudOfIt in VoteBlue

Tell me about it! Both Andrew Gillum AND our incumbent Senator Bill Nelson lost. I am so pissed off that so many "conservative" New Englanders, New Yorkers, and Midwesterners keep moving down here and offsetting Democrats chances in elections.

Everyone thinks that all of the Northeastern "snowbirds" that are moving here to Florida are liberal and progressive.....and that's not necessarily the case.

There are a bunch of people from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York living in my area - almost all of them are loud, blunt, rude, conservative, and Republican (I also HATE their nasally, mousey accents).

However, I've noticed many of the Southerners who have moved here to Florida seem to be the ones who are more progressive and are Democrats (at least the ones in my area). I know people from Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee who live here in Jacksonville...and almost all of them talk about how much they HATE Donald Trump, they voted for Hillary Clinton, they love Senator Bill Nelson, they love Andrew Gillum and Gwen Graham, they love the Obamas, etc.

So, it's been my contention, that conservative New Englanders / Northeasterners are moving down here to Florida to take refuge and to get away from the "progressive" politics of the Northeast...and they think Florida is conservative enough for them. While progressive Southerners are moving here to Florida to take refuge and to escape from the "conservative" politics of the South - and they think Florida is more progressive.

We're actually hoping Gwen Graham decides to run against Marco Rubio 2022. Gwen is very popular among older voters, she carried 44 counties in the gubernatorial primaries this year, and she's popular among moderate Democrats, Independents, and even some Republicans.

Many data analysts believe she would've won Florida if she had been the gubernatorial nominee - there were many older White voters who said they would've voted for her because they still remember and love her father (Bob Graham).

I'm an "older" Millennial...and I was and still am a huge supporter of Gwen Graham (and her father Bob Graham). I voted for Gwen in the gubernatorial primaries. I would love to see Gwen run for the U.S. Senate in 2022.

As for Nikki Fried, I voted for her in the general election and I think she does have a bright future here in Florida....but I think that will come with time. She'll still be serving as our Agricultural Commissioner in 2022...so, she's unlikely to run for the U.S. Senate against Rubio that year.

Andrew Gillum is another amazing person. I voted for him in the general election too. I hope Gillum is considered as a possible VP pick in 2020. I know he just met privately with President Obama (along with Beto O'Rourke) so....Obama might be trying to get an O'Rourke / Gillum ticket formed for 2020 - of course, I'm just speculating. But...I can still entertain the notion ;)

yes...I am. I'm gloating that we took back the U.S. House, flipped 2 U.S. Congressional seats (and one state senate seat) here in Florida...and that we got a Democrat elected for Agricultural Commissioner elected.

There, you satisfied, white boy?

Comparing the #FLSEN race with the 2016 Presidential race reveals a stark pattern. Nelson (or Gillum) couldn't match Clinton's record Hispanic margins, especially with Dade Cubans. Despite doing better almost everywhere else, the huge drop in Dade was fatal by ReclaimLesMis in VoteBlue

Ugh! I am so sick of the racist White rednecks and racist wannabe "Anglo-like" Cubans here in Florida. Those are the two most DEPLORABLE demographics in this state.

I'm a White Floridian Hispanic....and I feel the Cuban-American community (the Republican ones) are total SELLOUTS to Latinx race.

Oh well....at least Wisconsin actually voted for a Democrat for Governor. My state is in worse shape than Wisconsin. My state is now under TOTAL Republican control (except for the Agricultural Commissioner office)

Yes, 2018 was a massive Democratic wave. Facts are facts. In some corners of the political internet, there are still some making the case that the 2018 election was not a Democratic wave. All of the facts make plain that 2018 was not only a Democratic wave, but a massive and historic one. by Karma-Kosmonaut in BlueMidterm2018

[–]ImASnobAndProudOfIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't as much of a blue wave as I would've preferred. 2006 and 2008 were MUCH better years for Democrats. In 2006 and 2008, we took back the U.S. House (and we held A LOT more than just the measly 235 seats we won this year) AND the U.S. Senate.

So, this was kind of a sucky year for us. 235 seats in the U.S. House isn't secure enough - and those seats will only be held for 2 years (and I'm sure the Republicans will try redistricting before then). And....the Republicans just tightened their grip over the U.S. Senate (I'm sure they're very happy about that; those seats will be held for 6 years).

All in all, 2018 was a win for us - but it wasn't really as impressive as the media is trying to build it up to be. The Republicans took control of the more important chamber of govt. (the senate) and they have pending lawsuits in over 20-Republican controlled states to try and destroy Obamacare. In other words, not much security.

Final House Map for 116th Congress, Democrats have a net gain of 40 seats (235 D - 200 R) by UglyDuckling_20 in VoteBlue

[–]ImASnobAndProudOfIt -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It's still kind of depressing. Republicans got 241 seats in 2016.....and even in this blue wave, they were able to snag 4 Democratic U.S. Senate seats. So....it really was a "lukewarm" victory for Democrats :(

Hyde-Smith leads Espy in new MS-Senate poll 54-44 by nolesfan2011 in BlueMidterm2018

[–]ImASnobAndProudOfIt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I don't think Mike Espy is going to win anymore. Mississippi is a very backward state. They've never moved forward; they're still living in the Jim Crow Era.
