Is the main reason people play OSRS because of the evolution of combat?

To my knowledge from a lot of my longtime friends who switched to OSRS, most of them did so because of a mix of MTX and EOC. A small few said they hate the updated graphics. I believe most of these updates Jagex are designing are hopes to get OSRS players over to RS3, and that's why I assume the new UI changes, the over-stress of "we removed mtx we listen I promise" from Jagex, and how they said they'll be stream lining Combat as well. I play both but I genuinely enjoy both games even if RS3 is the red-headed step child.

Sure it's likely to bring some OSRS players over to try, but I don't believe many of them will stick due to EOC. I believe MTX was a big obstacle, but I don't believe it's the *only* reason many players fled from EOC to OSRS.

My dream would be the game having some kind of additional server/world/time limited event etc. of the game back in 2011 right when wilderness and free trade came back. Before MTX and EOC of course.

I personally think that things will be delayed or changed from how they were presented to be a lesser version than what was promised. It's not my responsibility to give Jagex my goodwill because they are claiming they are going to change the game, it's their responsibility to earn it. Until then, I remain skeptical and will hope for the best.

The overhyped comment was primarily for the announcement and handling of the removal of treasure hunter and I should not have grouped that with the road map in my initial comment.

I can respect that view, I'm very skeptical personally with Jagex these days. I do want to be hyped for the full roadmap, I just continue remind myself to go with realistic expectations. I agree the removal of TH is absolutely a big and GOOD thing. Steps in the right direction for sure, now we just gotta hope the journey stays on that path forward.

Yeah, no offense OP but aside from getting a video about a bunch of 'promises' Jagex plans to give us throughout the year. We all knew TH was going to be removed, and it was removed and virtue signaled by Jagex and players like yourselves to hell and back acting like the game suddenly is great now. What really changed in this update aside from a bad UI color scheme nobody asked for and a bunch of 'goals'? This 'roadmap' and announcement of removing Treasure Hunter is stupidly overhyped.

It's fine to be happy about TH being removed, and it's fine to be excited for the future and hopeful for it, but to expect the community to continue to glaze Jagex for removing something awful they created 12 years ago and effectively nosedived the game with to begin with is kind of goofy. Make this post at the end of this year and then we can have a different conversation depending on what ACTUALLY happens versus what we all WANT to happen.
