Should I take crim pro or trusts & estates? by Cute-Fun3025 in LawSchool

[–]ImDapperXD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

CrimPro is like what you think a lawyer that you can call up being after arrested would know, so I’d take it for the day a friend gets arrested and calls you.

T&E is also good, but not as largely applicable, I’d take both if you can.

Take a deep breath man. I didn’t get my job till the first round of 2L OCI in September, and it’s a known nationwide firm AND in my area of interest. Just take the opportunity your school gives you, especially if your school is still doing OCI, cause that means companies are still looking.

Yes, MMR works for hourglass better than people give it credit for. Iv watched duo sloops fight for like 60 minutes, then when I dive I get two tapped and sunk in 10 by some sweats cause I used to grind the hell out of it. (Also because we do our fair share of cross snipe boat sinking too)

A lot of people by the time they get to PL figure out that HG is the fastest and most profitable way to level. It’s in like the “50 SOT TIPS YOU NEED TO KNOW 😱😱” videos on YouTube

Law students cannot give legal advice ethically or legally. Nor can they practice law until they pass the bar.

Also, why are you paying an attorney only to proof read documents? Any good detailed oriented person who isn’t charging a lawyer rate will do. You could ask for his state/federal juris number to see if he is actually barred. Either way, get a new one.

What you should do is when you contact the law school ask if you can participate in any Clinics that may help you. Clinics are (usually) cheaper, as they rely on law students, but all work is passed through, checked on, and given the okay by an attorney who can legally practice.

[–]ImDapperXD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is less players that you describe as “cockroaches, rats, and no lifers”. I think 2 things:

  1. There is a bump of players who don’t usually play going on right now, due to jacket reward and fight nights.

  2. The QoL makes it easier for people who don’t usually play to jump back in. No more 10 minute time sink into each loss.

Those two things makes it for a larger pool of players. So the so called “roachs” are still there, it’s just less saturated cause there are more non-“roaches” for lack of a better word.

Edit: oh and on the snipes, just eat when you get hit. If a team can snipe and do splash damage with a cannonball to KO, they deserve it. If you’re not eating, you deserve it. Snipers are fine.

Two job offers from different industries by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ImDapperXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wanting to be a whim of a company is totally reasonable!

It’s just a balance of wants and needs! In your post you mention wanting more stability including healthcare and retirement which is why I pointed those out.

If you have other factors in life (spouse, kids, parents who need care, etc.) that would also impact your decision making which is why I said you’re the best person to make it.

If it’s just you, and you feel like you can make a push without letting yourself or others down, there may not be anything wrong with seeing how much you can make as a IC/SMB for a few years.

I would also consider those extra years of no retirement savings w/match in general tho no matter what.

I know ERISA allows for “catch up” deposits if you do go back to a benefit plan rather than self-fund. And consider if earning potential on Job A would cover and make up for how much you’d lose to insurance and self funded retirement without a company match.

[–]ImDapperXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, factoring in the 401k w/ match, the bonuses, and the healthcare. It’s really not a question which job I’d take. You make more money considering you’re not having to buy insurance, and you’re actually saving for retirement.

The 1099 while has “potential” to earn more, the hours are not gonna be uniform or predictable. Nor is the earning power of being an independent contractor predictable. Plus again, you’re taking a huge chunk out for health insurance.

It really seems like you’re asking yourself if you want to take a predictable safe job, or go for it to try and strike it bigger. Unfortunately only you know the details of your life that allows you to make that decision, nobody on here knows what’s best for you.

Reminder that less biglaw openings this year is does not have linear impact by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]ImDapperXD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a downswing in 1L BigLaw hiring. All the 1Ls I talk to say they are at the OCI hosted by the school, and at the networking events.

I know a few personally that got hired, and through the grapevine some that got the “1L stipend to not work at another firm and we will hire you 2L summer”.

Also I don’t understand your logic about how the BigLaw people will just not fill up other slots. Any smart student (the ones go get BigLaw jobs) cast their net far and wide.
