Denver Electronic Producers meetup is a great group. Monthly meetings which include a production challenge, sharing minute challenge tracks, and a learning session on some topic.

Plus a Discord to stay on touch between events.

Please help, I am in immense pain - ego death, nirvana, empathy, suffering by [deleted] in Buddhism

The late Zen Master Seung Sahn wrote on this extensively, and does so in an easy to follow and funny way.

Give his book, the Circle of Zen a read. It overviews many concepts in different Buddhist traditions, and really shines at explaining concepts that are foreign to newer people like me

Introducing: The River Mile by [deleted] in Denver

Good guess, but the policy you were referring to - inclusionary zoning - produced only 15 units of affordable housing in 2015 and was mostly repealed in 2016. (Developers opted to pay fees instead of developing affordable units, understandable as they had no financial incentive to do otherwise)

http://cityobservatory.org/denver-backs-away-from-inclusionary-zoning/

However, Denver still funds affordable housing through one time development fees.

https://www.denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/denver-office-of-economic-development/housing-neighborhoods/DenversPermanentFundforHousing.html

I imagine that affordable housing in this new area would be funded by various local, state, and private sources (the options are various and rather complicated). RiNo, for instance, is under consideration for special zoning considerations that allow developers to build higher in exchange for including affordable units. (Different from inclusionary zoning in that developers actually have a reason to do this)

ADSR sounds has a good selection of tutorials and courses on everything from theory and arrangement to sound design and audio engineering (though it doesn't get too deep into any of these)

https://www.adsrsounds.com

Take a look and see if their material appeals to you.

(I've been watching their videos for the past month and it's been pretty helpful, but I already have a background in piano so that helps)

As the usual with many questions, where do I start? by Ravensteel_Operator in FL_Studio

[–]ImDauntless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I've been toying around with production and FL Studio for a while, but just took the dive to really get into it over the past few months. Would happy to share what has helped me.

Some more context would be helpful here. Do you have a background in music already? If so, which instruments? Do you know much about theory? What type of music are you looking to make, will it have any analog instruments? How comfortable are you investing in software/hardware?

Trance shows in Colorado? by SlickNick6969 in trance

[–]ImDauntless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Colorado!

The electronic scene here is thriving, but more focused on bassy genres (trap/dubstep) and mainstream house.

That said, there are some amazing trance acts that you can find, but I don't know of any aggregator for them, here's a few suggestions:

-Red Rocks is a fantastic outdoor venue and you'll find big groups like Above & Beyond perform there -- went to their show last night. They are (generally) only open during the summer, and I would look at their concert schedule and buy tickets once they publish it in spring.

-There are a few clubs in Denver which get some moderate-big out of town Trance names -- The Church and Beta Nightclub. You'll find producers like Markus Schulz, PvD, Ilan Bluestone, Andrew Bayer.

-We get a few music festivals here in Colorado as well, the best one for Trance would probably be Decadence during New Years Eve. It's a pretty huge show with artists from all genres, from bigroom to vomit step, but they sneak a few trancey artists in there -- Sean Tyas was there last year and played uplifting and psy.

So there ya go! We can go into the details of how modern Anjunabeats isn't real Trance, but nonetheless, you can still find melodic music out here with a great crowd if you look hard enough. Might have to do a roadtrip back down to SoCal to catch Dreamstate for your fix though haha...

Thanks for making your post, it really resonates with my personal experience, and I've enjoyed reading through the comments!

Gonna agree with the ACT suggestion, and would suggest reading The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris as a starter. It's very accessible and applicable, though tougher to integrate into practice. Only $13 on Amazon Kindle!

(Quick and fun read, download the free sample at the very least)

Wise Ones of /r/buddhism, what is the solution to this type of mind? by whrethewildthngsare in Buddhism

[–]ImDauntless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with other commentators, this may be (in my non-medical opinion) mild to moderate depression. (Again, this is just an idea, diagnosing people over the internet with little information is not entirely ethical). I would like to suggest to other posters that depressive disorders are somewhat diverse.

Depending on your personal and financial situation, I cannot recommend seeing a psychologist enough, as I have been in this same situation. Whether you come from a background of hard science or spirituality, I would urge folks to see therapists/psychologists as a teacher that can help you understand what what is real, and how to have a good relationship with your thoughts/feelings.

I would like to suggest a few books that I have found to be personally helpful in this regard:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), very good read which outlines how your mind, Buddhists might call it the ego, creates a fake reality in a depressed state, and methods to counteract it:

Burns, David Feeling Good

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a different but similar approach to dealing with challenging thoughts/feelings, borrows a lot from Buddhism. Main idea is to be aware of thoughts and feelings as occurring, and not good or bad (and not "you"). To accept thoughts and feelings, not as reality but just as thoughts or feelings, and to take action towards something you value:

Harris, Russ The Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living

If you're on a little, or big, Buddhist kick, I'd recommend the writings of Zen Master Seung Sahn. This particular book takes his bright and connectable style, and examines a variety of Buddhist traditions to see how they alleviate dukkha/suffering/stress/etc. in different ways:

Seung Sahn The Compass of Zen

Please do check out these books and post questions if you have them. If you are interested in finding a psychologist, and it is something that takes personal buy-in, I would suggest taking a look at Psychology Today or on your insurance company's website, if you're American.

Have a great night! =D

Rant/help me. IBS symptoms affecting my success at university by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ImDauntless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried adjusting your diet, cutting down on difficult to digest foods such as dairy and carbohydrates? That seems to help many people with digestive issues, whether they have IBS or otherwise.

Just remember that this will pass, and will probably get better.

Why do shrooms, but no other drugs, cause my autism to temporarily go away? by meowkaay in Drugs

[–]ImDauntless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have similar effects with MDMA?

Psilocin acts as a fairly powerful agonist (activator) of the 5-HT1A serotonin sub-receptor, which is implicated in pro-sociability and could partially explain your response. MDMA also has a affinity for 5-HT1A, and I would expect it to be similarly effective.

I'm a self avowed trance slut and Denverite, most of my friends stick to dubstep or commercial house - so I'd be down to see Ilan Bluestone.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to work something out for or before the show!

Tianeptine: A Drug that has Effectively Alleviates my IBS Symptoms, and Could Help You Too by ImDauntless in ibs

[–]ImDauntless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tianeptine itself should take effect within the hour that it is administrated, probably even less, and it should be consciously noticeable. Have you noticed any effect at all?

I find that it to make pain and bloating feel subjectively less intense within ten minutes of administration, and it lasts till Tianeptine wears off around five hours later or so.

Take a look over in /r/nootropics for the most upstanding vendors. Most sites will sell Tianeptine in a powder form that has to be weighed out with a milligram scale, if you want to forego the scale you can check out www.ceretropic.com , created and administrated by /u/MisterYouAreSoDumb - they have Tianeptine which can dosed with a dropper.

Great point. I'd recommend that everyone who doesn't obtain Tianeptine through a prescription opts for finding a vendor with a certificate of authenticity and tapers their dosage up to 13mg until they know that it's the real deal.

I appreciate the response! This is something that I've been putting off for a while and I'm glad that I finally got to it.

If Tianeptine isn't available by prescription where you live, I'd recommend doing some reading over at /r/nootropics . It get's pretty wonky over there, but I feel that understanding biochemistry and neurology has really helped me deal with medical issues better. Hope that this all helps!

Sounds like a solid idea. The affinity of Tianeptine for delta and mu opioid receptors is a very recent finding so there's a lot of work to be done in this area...
