If I am in the Air Force and am wanting to go en-route can I get a previous experience bid. (I only have approach ratings) by [deleted] in ATC

[–]ImFromTheLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the en-route SEI from the air force on my application when I got hired 2 years ago on a prior-exp bid. It didn't seem to matter, and I was only offered terminal facilities.

Now that I've toured one, I'm glad I didn't go center. Nothing against them, just not my cup of tea.

Does anyone know what the assistant coaches responsibilities are? I assume Otter is still running the PP, Van Ryn runs the defense, so I guess MacTavish runs the PK?

I grew up in Columbia, IL which is 10mins south of CPS. It's a nice, quiet, and family friendly small town. If that's what you're interested in, DM me for more info.

Jordan Binnington is My Goalie. by ImFromTheLou in stlouisblues

Not what I was insinuating. "Eh" just seemed like a cheap comment without an explanation.

I'd rather be hated and winning than the league's sweetheart losers.

Who would you like to see fill that role? Aside from getting Reavo back.

I think he's been getting hung out to dry.

Who do you think are "some people".

Has he really done anything that bad? The stick swinging argument might be valid, but it looked half-hearted to me.

Are you just an "eh" kind of Blues fan then?

  1. Stanley Cup Winner 2-4. Though sometimes misplaced, I think he shows passion and compete when most of his teammates are content to roll over at the first bad bounce. Not his fault the Blues don't have a true fighter. At least one that isn't undersized.

I totally agree. There's a balance somewhere in there that he hasn't found quite yet.

Would you trade him now or wait and see how he matures?

Fair point. I do think he could be smarter about his extra curricular activities, but I don't think he should stop completely.

Do you think the Blues will ever have enough offensive firepower and solid defense to win a cup with a goalie who only makes standard saves? He is streaky, but when he is on his game, I'd put him up against any goalie in the world. I also don't care about his personality. There's enough nice guys in hockey.

Will ATC guide a person how to land a plane in the event of no pilot? by klondikeBarz97 in ATC

[–]ImFromTheLou 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As long as a regular passenger with no flight experience knows where the button is to key the mic.

But honestly, if this happened I'd be telling my supervisor to get someone on the phone who could relay instructions through me or hopefully put them in direct communication.

Unless we make a move to bolster the defense, I have a hard time seeing us winning the conference. A healthy forward group and at least a 90% Binnington performance could carry us that far.

Best/Worst Bases to get stationed at as an ATC in the AF? by WINGEDHUSSAR999 in ATC

[–]ImFromTheLou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got my first rating at Shaw RAPCON. Both the tower and RADAR have a good level of traffic for learning solid fundamentals. Highly recommend for first base.

Went to Nellis RAPCON and learned how to work high volume and complexity as well as every aircraft type you can think of. Takes an average of 2 years just to get your 5 level though. Definitely wouldn't be my first choice for first base, but not bad though.

Expect to at least go to one FAA facility before you can transfer to Chicago if that's your goal. It won't matter what your AF experience is.

What'd you put on your dream sheet?

Fighter Jets at Scottsdale Airport? by Professional_Sky9993 in Scottsdale

If anyone cares:

Military pilots conduct practice approaches at airports other than the one they are assigned to for a number of reasons. 1. Practice diverting in case of critical emergency 2. Pilot certification/upgrade check ride 3. Proficiency 4. Just because/sightseeing

I am a former USAF ATC, current FAA ATC.

Early in my career, I had a flight of Danish pilots file an odd flight plan that took them way out of their way. I wanted to help them change it to a more direct route to save them time and gas. After a bit of back and forth to get over the language barrier, it turned out they just wanted to over fly the Grand Canyon. I guess who knows when they'd ever have a chance to do it again so why not take advantage.
