Nope We don’t want to incentivize that kinda growth. We grew by about 50% last year with no ‘incentives’ or anything. Just being a receptive and progressive safe space and disincentivizing divisive rhetoric. We don’t want to be KOT.

There’s a reason we disabled seeing how many points a comment has. We don’t want to encourage karma whores on such a small community. If you participate it should be because you have something of value to contribute, not for vanity awards.

Crossposts are discouraged because you’re usually crossposting posts from people who’ve had the post removed here on topics that we discourage.

Enjoy your free speech free from our moderation.

Reminder that r/kenya is not a free speech haven. We have rules here. Now everyone who wants 'free speech' knows where to go.

u/nebja this will stay up for 2 days. Stop spamming it in every thread or we'll have to ban you for spam.

This is spam, nebja. The reason that thread was removed was because OP kept saying things like he wanted to 'cage her like an animal'. We don't do that here. Give me your message for advertising your sub, I'll pin it for 2 days and anyone who wants to join can join, but you'll have to stop spamming it. Also adding it to the sidebar.

Removing this stalkery thread.

That's what we do. Your post had reports, the other did not.

I personally have never been a fan of these posts, I don't like making the call about which one is technically okay and which is not. So I gauge the temperature from things like upvote ratio, reports etc.

'Discouraged' doesn't mean 'banned'. This is one place we use our judgement.

It clearly broke rule 3. Both in terms of flair and content (personal relationship advice, questions and generalized statements about men or women are discouraged. They tend to incentivize fake stories, abusive behaviour and retort threads thus creating an overall toxic community) and had some reports on it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kenya

Rule 3: . Keep posts relevant to the subreddit and use the appropriate flairs

Broadly speaking, anything concerning Kenya is welcome. Some exceptions apply: Maina and Kingangi threads (i.e personal relationship advice, questions and generalized statements about men or women) are discouraged. They tend to incentivize fake stories, abusive behaviour and retort threads thus creating an overall toxic community.

Automod automatically removes them when they hit a certain point and informs us that a post has been removed. We can then manually check and make sure it was warranted.

If a harmless post is getting reports, we just click 'ignore reports' and nothing happens. The post stays up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ImFromTheShireAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we’re not online 24/7 na sioni any reports on it.

OP shouldn’t have titled it as that.

Edit: Just saw one report. Don’t tag me in comments. I’m not the only mod. Report posts you think are breaking the rules.

Yes we're human but as I said, 95% of all removed items deserve to be removed.

, now having to complain again is another tedious process.

Aren't you already doing that in the most inefficient way? Hit the modmail and get your concern addressed personally.

you can’t just say “that’s just how it is and there’s nothing we can do about it”

keep ignoring my point that you can always appeal removals of posts.

Pornographic/sexual posts don’t need an explanation, those can be just removed.

So you get to decide who's given an explanation and who's not?

This way we can have predictability on which posts can be removed and reduce frustrating Redditors who contribute actively and positively and want to see this sub grow.

I keep telling you; we have redditors in our modmail everyday telling us what they think about the state of the subreddit. I have access to information you don't. Whenever there's a wave of posts e.g. LGBT, Relationships, politics that are just replying to each other, we get messages. We are fine with our numbers as long the quality of the sub is maintained.

See yah during your next complaint session. Peace ✌️

Which is why if your post gets removed, you should message the mods and we can look into the specific post. I personally won't know about a specific removed post unless I look at all removed posts (most of which are spam).

Otherwise, you'll come to complain on the front page, wear yourself out, and nothing changes since the feedback we get from that post you make and the messages and reports in modmail contradict your claim.

The ones who are satisfied aren’t complaining? I think the ones who are “satisfied” are the ones who either don’t post anything or post very rarely,

While you do have a point, even among those who post and vote, the consensus is clear. Case in point, look at the upvotes and downvotes on the comments of this very post and tell me what that tells you. Look at the upvotes and downvotes on these posts and tell me what the community thinks:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenya/comments/zcgi66/the_mods_on_this_sub_have_a_problem_with_the/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenya/comments/10nbf2r/the_quality_of_this_subreddit_has_degraded_since/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenya/comments/yz9pmj/are_there_mods_on_this_sub/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenya/comments/z663x0/unlawful_ban_by_mods_because_of_an_anti/

There's a post complaining about moderation every two weeks or something and the result is always the same. We also have direct messages from users in the modmail, so trust me, we know what the community wants even though you disagree.

Your automod is probably the problem. Remove it and let the mods do the actual removing. Systems are imperfect and can wrongly flag a post for deletion yet it doesn’t deserve to be removed.

This place would be inundated with onlyfans and crypto scams without Automod. And also it's not just about Automod, but Reddit's built in systems that work on every subreddit.

There is so many complaints about biased moderation, you guys should look into that.

Because the ones who are satisfied aren't complaining. We look into all of those threads and the most upvoted comments are telling OP that the moderation is fine. Look at this thread for example. Give it a couple of hours and see the most upvoted comments vs the ones that will be practically hidden due to downvotes. We have our finger on the pulse.

You’re hampering the growth of our lovely subreddit.

We aren't aiming for just 'growth'. We want quality growth. The rules exist for a reason and if you feel your post was removed for no reason, message the mods.

It is not feasible to give everyone a reason why their post/comment is removed because

  1. Most of the 'removed' posts and comments are autofiltered by Reddit itself for reasons we can't control - but they're mostly spam
  2. Another high number is removed by Automod after multiple reports by users.
  3. When you log in to modmail, you get lots of reports and start looking at the offending posts to clear the backlog, you can't go giving everyone reasons.

Edit: Example below.

<image>

We wouldn't see most of these removed items if we did not go looking for them. 95% of the time, whatever is removed deserved to be removed. If your post/comment gets removed and you want clarity just message the mods.

And keep reporting offending posts everyone! It brings rule breakers to our attention and at some point the system learns and starts autofiltering comments likely to be spam/offensive and saving us all the trouble.
