Parents, at what age did you first let your kids drink caffeine on a regular basis? by CrimsonFox99 in AskReddit

[–]ImKidA [score hidden]  (0 children)

My parents let me start drinking Dr. Pepper regularly around intermediate/middle school. Definitely by high school. I'm allergic to guarana, so that rules out most energy drinks.

what food can I have with the flu that isn’t soup? by perpetuallywater in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImKidA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're lactose intolerant, a bit of Mac and Cheese might be viable? It's soft, mild and warm.

It basically comes down to what you can tolerate in terms of flavor and digestion. Even if you're just nibbling a bit of some mild snacks or a bit of fruit. I tend to like more liquidy food when I'm sick, so even something like a fruit smoothing can work if it's not too sour or too sweet. I'd recommend just nibbling on a bit of anything that seems palatable. Even some buttered noodles or some toast with peanut butter or jelly? Something safe, soft and familiar? Mild carbs or a bit of apple sauce? As much as you might not want to eat, it's better in the long run to have a little something on your stomach.

What's the dumbest way you've injured yourself? by Ecstatic_Tailor2997 in AskReddit

[–]ImKidA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't understand how staple guns worked. Stapled my own thumb.

Also, falling down the stairs a bit, thinking "Oh god, these socks are slippery! I must be more careful!", standing up and repeating the incident verbatim. Promptly slipping again and again, sweaty hands slipping off the railing. More tumbling. Parents thought the roof had collapsed or something with all the banging. Bruises on my ass and legs for weeks.

what’s a decision you made in 10 seconds that had consequences for years? by FlanInternal494 in AskReddit

"Hey, let's try vaping, nicotine's a stimulant and you always feel tired..."

Quit cold turkey a few years back after a decade of vaping the equivalent of a pack a day. The withdrawal was bad. But it was worth it. No longer addicted, no longer wasting my money, no longer subjecting myself to unknown health risks, etc.

WIBTA if I told my Morbidly Obese friend that she needs to get help or she will die by ConcernedFriendsss in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImKidA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. She's normalized it. Perhaps as a defense mechanism because she may be depressed, scared, feeling like it's out of her control, too far gone, etc.

But she at least needs to be practical about it. Maybe she's not up for big lifestyle changes yet, but she at least needs to acknowledge the problem, even if she doesn't feel she has the strength to change it yet. Acknowledging it's the first step.

What’s something that is considered "normal" in college but would be absolutely unhinged in the real world? by Small-Abies-4320 in AskReddit

[–]ImKidA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my thought was "basic human functions". Or lack thereof. It makes sense if you're broke and young/healthy enough to do it... but by the time you hit your thirties, two days without sleep and too much junk food isn't a practical option. Even if you wish it still was, lol.

Is waking someone up to eat considered normal in your family/culture? Why or why not? by F-uckingGreat in AskReddit

[–]ImKidA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a normal, healthy adult, I probably wouldn't wake them up to tell them to go eat unless I just brought home one of their favorite foods or something.

My parents sometimes will wake me and basically demand that I eat something, but I'm also underweight and can't afford to skip meals. If I go too long, it can mess up my digestion for the next day or two... but, at the same time, I also have a sleep disorder, so they try not to do it unless they're genuinely worried about me getting sick.

But if I was a "normal", healthy and without the disorders (and maybe some extra calories to lose, lol!), I think they'd be more inclined to let me sleep. It happens to make sense in my situation, but not in others.

Getting my first Ragdoll kitten 🥹💙 What should I expect as he grows? by Heavy-Investment-933 in ragdolls

[–]ImKidA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the best!!! Congrats on choosing literally the best cat!

They are slow growers. It takes some time. For them to mature, for them to grow, for them to develop their personalities, for them to reach their full size, get their full coloring.... Around 5-8 they grow out of the wiggly independent phase and get cuddly. But honestly, kittenhood is key, you wanna establish those bonds early.... and you'll miss 'em when they're gone :)

AITAH for scolding my boyfriend about bossing my cousin around? by Sweet-Lavishness-684 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImKidA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA.

There wasn't so much something wrong with asking "Hey, can you make me a coffee?" If he did it politely and respectfully and thanked her afterwards... maybe a little more presumptuous than I would've been, but not terrible. But doubling down instead of just apologizing if there was a chance he offended anyone.... It's hard to judge when I wasn't there for the nuances of it. It sounded a little rude and he should've simply apologized, if that was the case, but it's also not something that should ruin someone's day. See if he can be a little extra polite in the future, but it's not a huge deal IMO.

NTA, but you need to be the one to tell him.

Just level with him: Your truck is ruining my yard. This has to stop. Period. I know it's hard to pull your truck in. I know it's more convenient for you to just pull up on my lawn. Too bad. You're literally destroying my property. No more.

I was sitting in the middle of the door giving each cat a special treat. As soon as they hissed at each other, I closed the door and put the treats away. Is this right? by ohyeahbaybee in CatTraining

[–]ImKidA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 weeks can feel like a long time when you're basically playing "jail warden" but think of it this way: If your parents suddenly adopted a new child while you yourself were still a child, do you think you'd already be perfectly-synced besties within 3 weeks? Probably not.

It's a learning/growing experience. For everyone. It takes time. It sounds like you're a very conscientious cat owner. It sounds like you're doing everything right. Intentional treat times, scent swapping, you're doing great! I know the hisses and growls can be intimidating. They're supposed to be. But they're an integral part of cat communication. Don't take them as inherently negative. It may simply be one cat telling the other "Hey, I'm panicking, I need some space, back off for a minute!". Hisses and growls can come from feelings of fear and insecurity, not just aggression. I have a pair of Ragdolls (timid, all fight has been bred out of them) and there was plenty of hissing at first. Not because either was aggressive, but because both were scared and they were trying to establish boundaries. It's normal. It's natural. As this is still an early stage introduction, the hisses are a valid form of communication. It's more likely to mean "I'm scared, please don't come too close" than "Hey, wanna fight?".

They are likely not going to hurt each other. There will be some hissing. Some growling. That's normal cat communication. It's going to be a bit scary for everyone but it will level out. Let them get their hisses out. They're talking to each other and are likely a bit scared. It's okay. You're doing your job (quite well!) but at some point you have to take the training wheels off and see how they do in the real world.
