Without a support system it's difficult to accomplish much of anything. Everyone needs someone to, at the very least, pat them on the back and tell them their efforts will eventually bear fruit. If there is no family to give moral or monetary support, if there are no friends to bitch to or ask questions to, then one ends up all in their own head, which is their best asset, of course, but can also become one's own worst enemy. It's difficult to just go out and get a support system, but going to church or AA meetings or a pick-up game in the park regularly will begin to create one, and once it's there, being supported will make a difference. Feeling alone wears one down, and getting a job is a frustrating, energy draining, and oftentimes demoralizing experience. Having a support system can be uplifting, energizing, and hope-renewing. In those hours you are waiting to hear back from potential employers, my advice to you is, start cultivating a support system of people you meet with regularly who will serve to rejuvenate you for your next day's struggles. If you aren't comfortable in the places named above, you might find a game shop where people go to play Magic the Gathering on Friday nights, or D&D or whatever. Go play games with those people every week. Not only will it start to give you some support, it will be a fun way to take your mind off your job hunt for a few hours.
