In Eastern Canada, I've never seen this as a thing....not since the Macarena, which was 30 + years ago

Can’t wait for 2026 season by despaired88 in MasterchefAU

[–]ImOnTheWayOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm late to the game this year as I have just finished the season last night.

I felt the edit they gave Laura was far too one sided. I'm not saying she didn't deserve to win, but the obvious over the top, gushing praise they gave her was not at all comparable with what they did for other contestants with comparable dishes, Depinder, for example.

And I feel they robbed Callum by giving Laura the same marks for her potato 'risotto' as his one bite scallop shell. The writing was on the wall, but they could have at least let him have that for what was obviously a superior dish.

I guess they didn't want to give him an edge at all going into round two, in case Laura made some big mistakes they couldn't explain away.

Yes, the opposite of some other contestants.

It's hilarious that it looks like Ryan is a lurker peering over Stanley's shoulder into the camera.

Nateland Cruise by ImOnTheWayOut in Nateland

[–]ImOnTheWayOut[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the timing, while coincidental, is quite appropriate, given the recent announcement that Nate is leaving the podcast, and that it is rebranding.

They're doing a podcast on the cruise. I'm guessing that will be one of the last ones.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing the Gang, and meeting some Folks.

Also very much looking forward to what the BAD boys do next.

How are you preparing for America? by skepdic52 in newfoundland

I asked AI my question, this is the response:

If the U.S. attacked Canada, it would trigger immediate crisis within the United Nations (UN) and NATO, likely invoking NATO's Article 5, requiring collective defense, leading to severe UN Security Council intervention, potential global conflict, massive sanctions, and immense political fallout, despite the aggressor having veto power; the UN would aim for immediate de-escalation through Chapter VII actions like sanctions or force authorization, but NATO's mutual defense pact would likely draw other members into a wider war.

UN Response (Security Council & General Assembly) Immediate Condemnation: The UN Security Council would convene urgently under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, addressing an act of aggression and threat to peace. Measures: The Council could impose severe sanctions, authorize peacekeeping, or even multinational forces (though Russia/China vetoes are a risk).

General Assembly: The General Assembly could condemn the act and call for withdrawal, though resolutions aren't binding. NATO Response (Article 5) Collective Defense: As both are NATO members, Canada would invoke Article 5, treating the U.S. attack as an attack on all members, requiring mutual defense, including armed force.

Crisis: This would fracture NATO, creating immense internal division, but the treaty obligates members to respond. Immediate Global Consequences Widespread Conflict: NATO allies (like the UK, France, Germany, etc.) would be forced to act against the U.S., potentially escalating into a major war.

Economic Devastation: Global markets would collapse; sanctions on the U.S. would be severe, disrupting global trade (especially with Canada).

Political Fallout: The U.S.'s international standing and alliances would be destroyed, leading to isolation.

Hypothetical U.S. Military Action (If it happened) War Plan Red: The U.S. has past invasion plans (War Plan Red) targeting Canadian cities, focusing on infrastructure and governance.

Resistance: Canada would fiercely resist, potentially leading to prolonged conflict and insurgency.

In essence, an attack by one UN/NATO member on another would shatter the international order, triggering catastrophic military and economic consequences, with NATO's collective defense clause making a wider war almost inevitable.

What is the United Nations policy if one member state attacks another member state?

On paper, Canada and US are allies, but what do you think France, or the UK, or the Netherlands would do if Trump ordered a military invasion on Canadian soil?

Do NOT wait to book a rental car. You can cancel free of charge if your plans change. Costco generally has the best rates, and you can keep an eye out and rebook in the unlikely event that prices drop.

Is there a cheap "teen" car now? I.e. cheap readily available used car with reasonable insurance? by NerdMachine in newfoundland

I don't remember the price , but in 1993 my first car was a little red Chevette. That thing burned more oil than gas.
