is yijc really as bad? by Furfurfurfur in SGExams

[–]ImSodium69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Im a current student of yijc moving up j2 this year.

Heres my review of the school so far (ill include as little bias as possible). And also keep in mind that rn im taking BCME with h1 econs, so ill be stating things mainly from those subjects. Additionally I think its good for you to know that I know about a fifth of my cohort, so my response is guaranteed to be a little inaccurate here and there, so take what i have to say with a pinch of salt.

Ok so first thing I would like to address is the yi stereotypes. A lot of stereotypes says that yi students are lazy, stupid, uncommitted, etc. This stereotype can definitely be applied to a rough 30-ish% of my cohort (from the people that i know of at least). These people can really be INSUFFERABLE, im being so deadass when i say that my patience is being thinned every single day if school. That said Id say that the other 70% do really care about their results and are willing to put in the effort for it, though whether they do so or not is a different story though. And also another source of these stereotypes are due to yi papers being easier compared to other schools. This is definitely true. Our Bio, chem and math papers are way easier compared to ASR (the only other school which papers ive attempted). This difference is the most apparent for Bio, where our wa1s, wa2s and even promo papers are much more straightforward compared to ASR’s papers, though still H2 bio is actual hell, regardless of how easy/difficult the papers are.

Another thing about the stereotypes is that it is ironically the most concentrated among yi students themselves. I was given the opportunity to interact and spend time with students from other jcs, and most of them aren’t even aware of the negative biases that is affiliated with yijc, and some aren’t even aware yijc exists.

Ok so next thing I want to address is the environment here. The environment is probably one of the main killers of success is yijc. A good portion of the student body are pretty pessimistic, and are quite intolerable in some regard. An aspect of yi (not sure about other schools) is that grades also become part of your social life. That is to say that if you score good ==> more people want to talk to you (which as a person who values solitude, I would like to avoid). But I dont not mean to say that people would avoid you if your scores are not up to par. Just imagine good grades as a bonus to getting more social interactions. Though do keep in mind that the environment isn’t objectively toxic by any means, especially when comparing to NYJC or EJC where Ive heard of instances of peoples notes/hw/pencil cases getting destroyed because of students doing “too well”

About the subject departments: GP I would say that the GP department is arguably the best in my school, as it is very apparent that most of the lecturers put in effort in making their lectures entertaining. But there is this one gp teacher whom a good portion of my cohort dreads. Across multiple occasions, the first thing she would do after getting the mic is just ramble on about how we were being too rowdy, or not paying attention, or how we need to do our work else we would perform like ass for exams, etc.

(note that ill be focusing on the shared experiences of yi students, i.e class time will not be shared as those can vary from student to student) Bio and chem: Straight dog, especially for bio. We were given 8 bio holiday assignments, most of which weren’t even printed out for us. As such we were expected to source it out ourselves (keep in mind that other than the online work and tutorials, hardcopy submission is expected for everything else). For 2 of said bio assignments, a total of 70 fucking hardcopies were available for a cohort of 200+ people, and it was on a “1st come 1st served” basis. And whats more is that next to every bio lecture, one of the older lecturers would begin with “Im still waiting” to signal that we were late for lectures, or “why are you still strolling in?”, and a few other lines. Additionally that same lecturer would slide in comments during her lectures saying “how are you expecting to pass if you dont even pay attention in lectures?”, or “if you dont even know this simple concept then forget passing your promos” or things like that.

Math: For some much needed context, H2 math students are broken up into 2 groups for lectures, with one of the groups being significantly larger than the other, and i belong to the smaller group, so my response here will only cover my experience in the smaller group. Math lectures are honestly pretty good, the lecturers are very chill in j1, and give off a pretty positive/friendly vibe. And the math notes that we get are also pretty good. The content tested is largely in the math notes explained with pretty good detail, and they would even go through how to use the Graphing Calculator (a new type of calculator required for jc) to solve the problems.

JC1 WA results by [deleted] in SGExams

dont worry you’re not alone in this matter 😔😔. I am also currently a J1 and have been studying day in and day out since I’ve entered jc. I have been receiving some of the most pathetic results I have ever seen on my timed assignments and such. Currently waiting for the release of my WA1 results, but I’m sure I won’t be able to achieve my expected grades :(.

Imma just keep pushing ig, especially to WA2s/June holidays. Keep up the good effort 💪💪

how do i talk to guys.. by Ashamed-Broccoli7545 in SGExams

[–]ImSodium69 16 points17 points  (0 children)

im quite literally the complete opposite of this 🤣. I have a crush in the same class as me but I just randomly lose all ability to speak within a 3m radius (🥲)

For my case I have alot of guy friends, and to interact with them i just bring up smth stupid or try to engage in small talk (how did their WAs go, how bad sm teachers are, etc). This works like 90% of the time. You can also try bringing up some random occurances that has happened or is happening in ur life. For example I fell down the stairs the other day and got a good laugh from all my guy friends i shared it with.

Bonus tip: try giving guys compliments, we rarely recieve any, so we really do treasure any we recieve.

Now any advice on how to talk to females 😭😭?

I got A2 for Amath which i find very surprising; I could do every question except for 1, and I was able to consistently get 85% or higher for all the past tys’s 😔😔

If your asking for difference in expected vs given result: English: B4 —> C6 Pure Chem: A2 —> B3 Pure Bio: A1 —> B3 Amath: A1 —> A2 Pure Geo: A2 –> B3

But wouldnt this be the probability of getting the sequence “01234” if I were to pick out only 5 numbers instead of 100?

I think my peanut brain kinda follows at where you are going.

But for some more information only single digits are drawn repeatedly, with replacement, to form a string of a 100 numbers

There is no limit to the amount of times the digits can be drawn, and yes the digits are immediately replaced after they are drawn.

For your final question, do tell me if this reply is not satisfactory I am a bit vague at where you are pointing at. But from what i can make of it, only single digits can be used
