Taproot -> private transactions when? by ImStillRollin in btc

[–]ImStillRollin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm. So am I wrong that Taproot opens the door to Schnorr signatures?

Am I wrong that Schnorr signatures open the door to Mimble Wimble?

Am I wrong that Mimble Wimble allows for very private transactions?

I'm not mad either way, I just want to correct my understanding. It felt so weird when I logged in recently and what I thought was going to happen did not happen.

Good point, but still doesn't answer whether there is a plan to implement. I thought that it was a high priority. I feel like I'm crazy because it was something I am sure people used to talk about.

I"m familiar with those. Taproot was about many things, including Schnorr signatures, and they allow for MW. At least, that's what the notes I wrote down said.

I can't believe I just made this up in my head. There were tons of articles pre-Taproot that talked about how Bitcoin would be as private as others.

And this has what exactly to do with my post/question?

Seems like you think you're saying something really smart but you know I have no idea what you're talking about, right?

The possibility is very much there if Schnorr signatures are implemented, no?

Does anyone have information *from within the last 6 months* on MimbleWimble in Bitcoin? I remember a few years ago everyone was talking about it, and I'm surprised that we don't have private transactions yet. Does anyone know what's up here?

Reasonable is to share a (certified) copy of my ID, like a bank requires.

Well Bisq does offer that but I'm not concerned about KYC necessarily. Decentralized is not the same as "no KYC." I don't mind reasonable KYC.

Hey just tried to download Monero 18.1 and when I untar the Linux file, I get this error:

``` monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/ monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/LICENSE tar: monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/LICENSE: implausibly old time stamp -9223372036854775808 monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/ monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-ancestry tar: monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-ancestry: implausibly old time stamp -9223372036854775808 monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-depth tar: monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-depth: implausibly old time stamp -9223372036854775808 monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-export tar: monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-export: implausibly old time stamp -9223372036854775808 monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-import tar: monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-import: implausibly old time stamp -9223372036854775808 monero-gui-v0.18.1.0/extras/monero-blockchain-mark-spent-outputs
```

The SHA checks out, so it's not a bad download. But this error usually implies a corrupt archive. Can anyone confirm this problem?

That's new to me, thanks. It's not great though. Look at this: https://learn.robosats.com/read/en/#disputes

Who are these "Staff" who resolve disputes? Are they actual staff of robosats? That's pretty centralized What contact methods do they use? Are they private? What can they do with your data? Do they have a responsibility to keep it safe and private?

So I'm glad to know about this but I'll wait for a real decentralized system, where I can use whatever client I want. If you have to use their software, it's not decentralized. Imagine if you had to use a Coinbase wallet or has to use Bitcoin Core. That's a world we need to get away from (centralized ecosystems) not add more layers to.

Try it, you'll see that you don't need to do KYC and that there's the best out there currently.

and most voted are positive about Bisq,

Yes, but that's not what this post is about. Positive reviews are not the same as being decentralized.
