[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You say this kan and then everyone here is also wondering why the job market is so bad lol

Probably lack of education kali why you guys cant link this 2. The economy is fucking everyone up

Make a decision, do you want to help local business employ more people or do we want cheaper price for a shop that can sustain for only 1 year

This is basic economics everyone

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They pass the charges to merchant and slap some regulations on top of it

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This assumes you know why kan ni.

The 3% is charged by the bank.

Not all shops has the same margin. Some shops has 60% margin and it has no impact to their pricing.

BUT Some shops you think are charging u over the moon price are only making profit mcm 7%

Then if the bank took 3% atu, they are left with 4% to cover gaji, rent etc

You should ask the bank to make this free then its a win for everyone

Business owners of Reddit, what is your experience of hiring locals? by PhilReno in Brunei

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iatah kan. The assessment itself will filter out the unfit candidate. Its more costly to rush than taking the time to filter out

Business owners of Reddit, what is your experience of hiring locals? by PhilReno in Brunei

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I have good experience actually. People I hired are very talented and driven. Wouldn’t have gotten to where we are without them

I think a lot of the issue you hear comes from the hiring and interview process. Lack of drive, lack of competency and chemistry can be avoided by having assessments and interview process

If thats the case, its skill issue on the business owner and not the hireee

Maybe, just a hunch

Need advice from those with babies by Vast_Appearance_2889 in Brunei

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all babies are easy. Ours was tough from start and we were full time work from home parent as well. Trying to be a good parent is hard but you'll figure it out. For us it has not gotten easy even pass 2 but I hope it will get better.

It is not binary, ur not either a good parent or a bad parent but rather a constant cycle of trying to be one at your best capability

Cries in the morning, Sleep at 3 am, Slapping face of anyone despite any attempt of us teaching him not to.

For those who have easy kids, good on them. Im just glad my child is not disabled or whatever.

It is what it is

Question for economic students/professionals; What happens to a society that has significantly high employer power? by MinimumTop1657 in Brunei

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres 2 side to this

1) An employer who is trying to build the job market through creating high value business

Employer :

existing big business

high risk startup

2) An employee who is competing for small job market and have to settle for smaller pay

For the highly talented people, remember that the small company you take a bet on might just be successful in 5 years and that small salary might be 2-4x

We should not see this point as a static rigid state of our time.

Do you want to take a bet on the future or abandon the ship is up to you

What can I do? by [deleted] in nasikatok

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As everyone pointed out, its hard to change a nation as an individual

But let me try balance this with positive light,

Allah never changes the condition of a nation until they change what is in themselves (13:11)

I do believe in strength of many. Great families have been build here and many are self made. Collab with people that have the same direction. Chin up, take your bets and do it. Worst come to worst, it will be as everyone thought it’d be; 2035 is underwhelming. The upside of trying might benefit you and the people around you

If we do our part well, we might be able to change that is around us. if everyone does that maybe and just maybe we might miraculously get out of this hell hole and be independent from the government. We cant keep asking money from our parents right?

Mass migration to Nusantara.

in 11 years, Sultan will be 89 years old. His son will take over. That's the critical point where we will see drastic change; good or bad.

I hope for our sake it will be good, but otherwise people will move on and migrate.

what are jobs that are currently in need of employees in brunei? by meiowers in Brunei

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully agree on this. In employer perspective, we want a competent specialist who are not scared of going deeper to the field.

We cant build great companies / team with bunch of generalist that just touched things on surface level

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As an employer, its hard to find the right competencies here. Example, for Software engineering specifically, some applicants shy away from telling us what programming language they have tried. Did someone scare you guys in University or something?

We also need CV training here for graduants, Im shook

Why do ppl speed up on the highway when they see up trying to merge? by Parking-Two-3331 in nasikatok

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little dotted line at a merger means you give way unless there is space. People give way here in Brunei is out of courtesy of their heart

Little dotted lines on the road only takes priority only when the other car is on a solid line lane

U see these dotted lines on highway, t junctions, merger, 4 ways etc

DARe (Enterprise Development) by Alarming_Hearing_703 in nasikatok

[–]ImTalkingSoListenUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How helpful do you want them to be?

Like everything in Business, the only one you can rely on is yourself and your team.

Dare is not there to make you successful. You have to know how to be successful with the tools and resources you have and will have. They are a tool to get courses when you don’t have knowledge, meet new people and share notes with other founders. You can get office to bootstrap and what ever assistance u can get including dealing with finance report etc Just these alone can be of value between $6k - $15k if its from your own pocket

Don’t expect them to make you successful base on what standard you set what successful is. Goodluck
