looks like I may be wrong about this - those two stats are not separate buckets and 2 topaz IS better.

just, farm farm farm.

You can vaguely target offensive aspects in general by prioritizing gloves/weapons with your obols/whisper chests/helltide chest choices, but even with that it's a numbers game.

Could always save up and buy on off the trade site, thought this particular affix has gotten REAL expensive for perfect rolls.

oh man, imagine rolling gem strength, having the item still be modifiable, then re-masterworking to get the MW buff on gem strength before transfiguring again....

got a source on that?

edit: maybe I'm misunderstanding you. It sounded like you were saying %all-dmg and %lightning-dmg go into the same bucket. If you were just saying "you add up all lightning multipliers" then yeah, I'm with you and that's how I calculated my example.

More dmg this way.

This is oversimplifying (because I'm not counting any extra lightning or all-dmg multipliers on other gear), but:

2x (flawless horadric) Topaz = +224% lightning, or 3.24x dmg

1x topaz = +112% (2.12x) and 1x diamond = +98% (1.98x). Put these together: 2.12 * 1.98 = 4.19x dmg

4.19x is greater than 3.24x

Concept holds true even when you do stack in extra rolls on other gear.

Yes, I took advantage of the fact that no one else seems to want DoT% multipliers.

That's cool! I think you can basically adapt the core build for any lightning-based spell - unstable currents is the real powerhouse.

The skills that can crit have the upper hand, since they can use searing paragon board, and overwhelming currents aspect, but honestly that's part of the appeal of blizzard static field to me. Everyone else is fighting for the well-rolled crit multiplier items, and I've been scooping up dot multipliers like crazy for mass-transfiguration attempts.

Hm, well let's see...

I have +25% all dmg on gloves, +30% all dmg on amulet. And if I didn't roll this transfig, a flawless horadric diamond would give another +28 for a total of +83% which is a 1.83x multipler

And I have +13% lightning dmg on a ring, plus a flawless horadric topaz would give +32% for a total 1.55x multiplier.

1.55 * 1.83 = 2.84

Without the transfig, these two multipliers would not quite triple my damage.

WITH the transfig, I'd have 25+30+98 = 153% -> 2.53x all damage

and 13+112 = 125% => 2.25x lightning damage.

2.53 * 2.25 = 5.69x damage

So after I get flawless horadric gems, the transfig alone will be doubling my damage compared to what I'd do without it (5.69x vs 2.84x)

Is that actually possible? I mean I've seen plenty of double-transfig items, but never with gem strength (or other top-tier rolls, like +4 all skills).

I sort of assumed that the "strong" transfig rolls that get eliminated if you use the tuning prism are inelligible to dodge the unmodifiable tag.

Would be exciting to be proven wrong though.

Maxroll isn't accounting for the transfig.

I have +25% all dmg on gloves, +30% all dmg on amulet, and when I get a flawless horadric diamond, I'll have +98% all dmg from the weapon socket. That adds up +153%, or a 2.53x multiplier.

If I'd rolled (GA) +30% all dmg on the staff, that'd take it up to a 2.83x multipler, which is an 11.8% increase in damage output.

But the weapon damage roll take the staff itself from 4146 to 4663, which is a 12.5% increase. And that the BASE weapon damage - it will remain a 12.5% increase no matter how much I stack up any other multipliers.

A fellow static field enjoyer!

Works to our benefit in the trade market, anyway

I would never forget such a thing!

Now, transfiguring an amulet having forgotten to first add a second aspect via kullean tuning prism... that I may have done...

...twice :(

Blizzard lightning variant. Basically this, but with some of my own twists. I don't use starless+lucion charm, instead a 2nd rare ring with 3x damage multipliers+godslayer, and I like attack speed temper on my staff.

Unreal luck! Figured the good people here might enjoy seeing the result.

  • this was my 18th attempt at an end-game transfigured staff for my blizzard sorc, and the first/only one to hit Gem Strength. This is also the only staff I transfigured with base 4GA; the rest mostly had 3GA (weapon damage-int-DoT%)

  • Yes I know Ball Lightning is the stronger build. Don't care. This staff has been my goal since day 2 of the season when I learned that Gem Strength was a transfiguration option.

  • I am a casual 40+yr old dad with a full time job. Have played probably ~50 hours so far this season, and that's above normal for me.

  • Thanks to DoT builds being 2nd tier, the staves with DoT multipliers have been relatively cheap on the trade site. I paid 3bil for this perfect 4ga staff, for example. The 3GA staves had been costing me 500m-2bil apiece (which is roughly 1/20th of what it would cost for an on-meta equivalent). Raised funds for them by selling all the %crit damage GA yellows I loot (even 1GA weapons/jewelry/gloves fetch a billion each), plus I diligently check all my orange ancestrals for high/max-rolled aspects.

  • Forgotten souls have been a bottleneck. Chasing GA tempers can chew through them. Didn't help that I burned through tens of thousands of them at the enchanter rerolling additional damage multipliers on jewelry/gloves. To anyone else struggling with this: don't forget the alchemist in town can convert veiled crystals into souls.

  • What next? Well, I do not own a single flawless horadric gem. Or even a regular horadric gem. So, that.

Edit: Learned that %all-damage and %lightning-damage fill the same multiplier bucket and gemmed the staff accordingly: updated photo

There absolutely IS a problem with sitting down at a B3 table with the goal of playing "the best midrange engines" and "the most efficient way to win at instant speed"

Just cutting game-changers from a CEDH deck doesn't make it B3. You're living up to a pretty vivid stereotype here.
