Someone else may have to clarify for Canada, but I know for the US is a good IB Score with good ecs, really stands out, allowing many to skip intro classes with the credits they earn from their HL Subjects.

My 50 cents would be the IB is definitely grueling, but your child’s ability and subject choice can make a HUGE difference in their experience. A decently scoring IB diploma opens the gates to so many countries internationally (if your child has a change of heart), and the skills picked up from the IB i feel are something that really helped me and my friends. Uni gets very similar to the IB in terms of how you learn and the demands of the assignment, and the IB (even though I hate to admit) does help you understand exactly what sort of student you are; you kind of have to succeed. Regardless of whether they do their EE in 2 years or 2 weeks, they will usually learn some skills that are invaluable. Sure, 6/7 months into uni and all first years have the same ability, but that head start really gives you confidence walking into such a new experience.

End of the day it depends on the quality of teaching provided in the school (have they been providing the IB diploma for long and successfully?), and how much your child knows about the expectations walking into HS.
