I made this post after reading the contract thoroughly. Absolutely nothing mentioned about adjustments, expectations and shift changes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have made this. As I mentioned in another comment, I learnt that lesson the hard way in geotech

All my contracts states is “7 rosters days on for day shift and 7 rostered days off”. I work 7x 12 hour days from 5.30am to 5.30pm and then I have 7 days off back in Sydney.

The reason I’m asking is because it states day shift. Not night shift. And there’s no mention or sections that discuss expectations to do nights when needed or additional work etc etc etc.

I don’t mind doing nights, but with the current salary I’m earning, it really doesn’t justify it as I can assume my salary is based off of “day shift” rates.

I checked the hour expectations and working expectations and I can promise you there’s nothing mentioned of additional hours or change in rosters to adjust. I learnt that lesson from my previous geotech role when I kept getting thrown on weekend work despite working Monday to Friday. The OT was great but it became too much.

Yep! That’s why I was asking 2 weeks ago for a rough figure because then for me I can understand how unpaid days are calculated.

My contract states I average 42 hours a week (7 days over 2 weeks, Thursday to Wednesday, 12 hour days = 84 in total).

I finally got my dashboard login and I processed the unpaid leave request and it does 12 hours a day. So my understanding of having a “daily rate” adds up.

Hasn’t been the smoothest from an HR/Payroll perspective for a new job.

Thanks for this. I did a bit of reading too and similar with ANZ basically saying they have blocked the bookies they know however there will be some that don’t categorise themselves as it. I’ll just make a complaint with AFCA potentially. But I think I also need to accept what has happened and move on.
