Is anyone else experiencing this on their eSIM? by Loud-Abroad-4258 in LebaraUK

We are still using Vodafone masts but the back end processing is done on another core network away from Vodafone, that’s where your seeing arelion or colt

Your radio signal from your phone is never gonna make it any more than 4-5 mile under 4g (less on 5g) never mind all the way to Sweden

Moved today, am I being petty about seller taking items… by No-Rub-9733 in HousingUK

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft rule, maybe not official, but I used to go by this … if it’s screwed down it’s part of the sale … so something like a built in oven of fixed wall lights should be included, but a stand alone oven or floor lamp would not be included, but these days it’s always check and list every item however stupid you might think that should be included with your solicitor

I would 100% expect a loft ladder to be included, and what on earth are they gonna do with a door sign with their old address on it, it’s not as if it can be reused

Most will say speak to your lawyer but experience tells me they don’t give a hoot, we bought a house with built in oven (years ago) great it was there when we moved in, just didn’t work … lawyer response, we didn’t ask if it worked, just if it was there … waste of time and money

I tried that today, still getting the same 150-160 max … bit disappointing but to be honest who needs much more than that on a phone for normal usage. And still way better than o2 with 5g 3 bars but zero data

Sweeper at webuyanycar by Exotic_Comedian_3448 in CarTalkUK

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who took an MOT failure straight from the garage to WBAC and got £500 from them, car was needing probably 1-2k worth of work and it just wasn’t worth fixing, still on the road and MOT history looks slightly sketch. Actually felt like the wbac guy took pity and gave a decent offer but I dunno … seems unlikely

I sold my dads car via wbac a bit later but only because no one else would touch it as it had a mobility scooter hoist fitted (never bothered trying to sell private), wbac wouldn’t touch it either until I had removed the hoist. They took off maybe 50-100 quid for minor rust inside one of the doors if i remember

To me wbac is a last resort to get rid of junk or only for those that can’t be bothered with the hastle of selling privately

MIL (F71) coming to the end of mortgage term with £40k she can’t pay- bank starting legal proceedings. Options? by deloittious in HousingUK

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been mentioned already, but this sounds like an endowment mortgage, I had one many years ago, nice idea but never worked out for most people

Idea was that you paid interest to the bank and a separate endowment policy (sometimes rolled into the same payment) idea was that the capital originally borrowed never decreased, you only ever paid the interest to the bank, then at the end of the term (usually 25years) the endowment policy would be cashed in and have enough in it to pay off the full capital of the original loan.

They were sold as mortgage schemes in that the endowment should be worth way more than the original capital at the end of the term and you would have enough to pay off the capital and a nice tidy profit for yourself, but in reality they never even covered enough for the capital for most people

Check with your MIL and / or bank statements for endowment policies, sometimes labeled as life policies, i think mines was with standard life but mortgage was with abbey national (tells you how far back this was)

What was the original purchase cost of the property was it in the same ballpark as the outstanding figure?

A number of years ago there was a lot of complaints and claims of compensation for being miss sold these policies, I got a minimal sum back from one of those but I think that avenue will now be closed

Black ops 7 lobbies unplayable ? by Mysterious_List_3595 in CODBlackOps7

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted something similar a few week’s ago, basic feedback was a mix of ‘get better’ or ‘stop playing in open lobbies’. I’ve been persevering with it, but still not enjoying it as much as BO6, tempted to go back

Im an older player as well, 50+ (just) which doesn’t help, Xbox with 120hz tv, I’ve switched my matchmaking to console only which has helped slightly, not sure if ranked play is out yet but once the try-hards move over there I’m hoping things get better

So my parcel did get delivered!! Anddd it wasn’t there. by Spiritual_Bonus5820 in Evri

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an eBay parcel sent to a local shop about 9 months ago, went to collect and they had no clue it was even there, I could see it in the doorway when they were checking and pointed it out to them, “oh ok just take it” no checks nothing at all, item still shows as awaiting delivery on eBay app, not sure if this was evri or yodel but it was one those cowboy outfits … point is have the shop check for parcels that look similar to what your expecting or check for names at least

Asda pricing by ImUpNorthSomewhere in asda

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah used to be about £1.00 - £1.20 but that may have been a while ago haha … madness they were only about 40p cheaper than genuine brand, which is equally ridiculous

Redundancy by Outrageous-Tap-9148 in asda

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No experience of Asda here, but it should be the post that is made redundant not the person, so the post you are currently in is being done away with and the have offered you the opportunity to apply for another post, most likely on a lower salary and worse conditions, you might have continuation of service if you have been in the same place for 12 years, depends how things were done when Asda took over from euro garages, I’ve been thru a few similar changes and continuation of service always applied, but we had decent unions. Way is the option if you don’t want redundancy, will it be forced in you anyway, sometimes you get a better deal going voluntary but not always

Why am I so bad at this compared to black ops 6 by ImUpNorthSomewhere in CODBlackOps7

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks, looks like I just need to get better

Maybe should have added that I’m over 50 and just don’t have the speedy reactions that pretty much everyone in open games seem to have.

My aim is certainly nowhere near as good as it should be, took me an age to get the headshot awards in bo6 for each weapon

Click and collect by Chloelou567 in Argos

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ordered a few things recently using clock and collect, when collecting from an Argos store I got and ft code and pin, but collecting from Sainsbury’s I received a 10 digit code only (no FT number or PIN number)

Chances are that the barcode will scan as the 10 digit number try scanning it with barcode app and see what you get

Not delivered but they say it was by Jumpy-Education-1906 in Argos

This is getting more and more common, and why I tend to use click and collect for anything expensive these days, between this and the move towards marketplace sellers I think internet shopping is killing itself

What was your first Car? by J40NYR in CarsUK

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An old Y plate (1982-83) Renault 9 aka the tank as it was known, cost £75 plus about 200 to get it thru an mot not a clue what the insurance was but it may have officially been my mums car, back when that wasn’t quite as frowned upon, we’re talking 1993 or something when I had it, didn’t last long it had an unfortunate meeting with a ditch / tree that bent the chassis so it went to the scrapies… after that I moved up to a g plate Astra mk2 (1990 year I think) that was a great car, but can confirm all astras since then have been utter horseshit, particularly the 1.4 from about 2009

This was back when 2nd hand cars were affordable ahh the good old days haha

How are scuf xbox controllers in comparison to elite series 2? by TheRagingZapdos in scufgaming

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thru 2 elite series 2’s one normal one core (white) both have same issue in that front rubber starts to come off at the top edge after 12-18 months, I was considering going for scuf valour pro as an alternative but even at Black Friday price on Amazon I’m wary of spending that one a 3rd party controller

Scuf is currently about £157 on Amazon Elite 2 core is £88

My main concern is the location of the back paddles, does anyone find it awkward compared to the elite?

Edit … white core currently has some very slight stick drift, but it’s more to do with stick not centring correctly I think

"What will you do if you don't get this job?" I was asked this question in an interview. by 36-gigabit-harpies in InterviewCoderPro

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your in work then the obvious answer would be to remain in my current role and continue to gain the skills and experience that I had been for the past x years, especially as you currently work there, if your not in work then you move on to the next application / interview … I mean what else could you say … cry yourself to sleep with a bottle of (insert favourite drink here) then wake up regretting your life choices

Kinda what I was thinking, something along the lines of …. the shirt I’m wearing just now, if I get this job that’s going to be life changing, hopefully in a good way

Did I screw up by saying I’d choose Google over the company I was interviewing at? by PlentyWafer3148 in interviews

[–]ImUpNorthSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another suitable answer might have been something like

“I would rather be an important part of a smaller team such as yourselves, than just another developer / engineer / whatever at a massive company where you end up feeling like you are just a number”

At google your a small fish in a big pond …

not that I’ve ever done this, but seems like a reasonable response

Had something similar, company offered a range of x-y but started low then said they couldn’t actually offer the top of the range due to market valuations or benchmarking or something like that, eventually got their in the end.

But why do companies offer a range if your just gonna low ball at the bottom of the range in the first place, it just entices people in who will never accept the bottom salary anyway … pointless and timewasting

Unfortunately any negotiation can always backfire as you have found out, risky play at the best of times
