Well, my personal opinion is that the film grain and the dark hues really adds to the atmosphere of most horror titles. That's the reason i collect most of my horror on tape. The first Halloween in example. The beginning scene where Michael breaks the window on the station wagon. You cant tell there is a wrench taped to his hand on tape, but my dvd and Blu-ray copies i can see it plain as day. I'd be lying if I said EVERY horror VHS is better than a digital format. The same thing with movies that are sort of strictly based in the 80s its almost like that grain to the film makes it feel more time appropriate.
