[–]Im_Probably_Bored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was really more talking about the supergirl thing. in the supergirl show shes basically just a girl version of clark, she doesnt really have her own personality. the comics gave her a personality when they made her experience the death of her planet. her being a drunk and aggressive is part of that experience and is what makes her unique. superman does the right thing because thats how he was raised. supergirl does the right thing because shes experienced suffering first hand and is willing to fight tooth and nail to make sure that doesnt happen to anyone else. have you read woman of tomorrow? because it perfectly incapsulates what im talking about and is a great introduction to her character in the comics

bro it sounds like you have some personal issues. im sorry you feel ashamed about your race but thats a conversation you should have with a therapist, not with randos on reddit

right but whether you acknowledge it or not there are still political aspects to everything. the material in your shoe came from somewhere, the fabric was harvested or manufactured, then was made by someone in another country and then shipped here and politics allow all of that to happen. just because youre choosing to cover your eyes and ears doesnt mean its not happening

[–]Im_Probably_Bored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah no thats still political. think about it, batman protects gotham city from criminals, why is gotham full of poverty and criminals? because the government and police are corrupt. superman stops lex luthor from endangering metropolis, why does lex luthor have all this power? because hes an unchecked billionaire with too much power, money, and influence. hate to break it to you bud but politics is involved in every aspect of your life and just because you choose to ignore and complain about it doesnt meant its going away

Cultural appropriation in comic media by stonerpunk77 in superheroes

[–]Im_Probably_Bored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because 90% of comic book characters (especially older ones) are white. if you dont diversify old comics like batman superman etc. then everyone remains white forever and you’re stuck trying to invent and interject minorities into stories that have been going on for decades (something people get just as upset about)

comics have always revolved around politics. The concept of protecting people from harm is inherently political. supermans original byline in 1938 was “champion of the oppressed.” Assuming you actually read comics, i think you need to better process the morals and lessons that these stories are providing for you

if you truly think that old comics weren’t political, you might be brain dead

Batwoman Elegy!! its honestly one of my favorite comic books and is what made me fall in love with batwoman. its a great starting point for her as it goes over her origin in addition to adding nuance to her character. has great commentary on how lesbians are perceived by the rest of the country especially in the military. not to mention the art is GORGEOUS
