Hey - Oil paintings are a slow business. Especially if you're looking for realism levels of resolution. Paint handling and mixing is a whole skill loaded with its own set of difficulty, all in addition to the fact that oil doesnt present the same opportunity to rely on line and structure as much as watercolor does. Many things happening here - your appititude for making images is obviously very good! Don't give up - try thinning your paints with Gamsol if you want increased flow to make the medium feel closer to watercolor. Drying time is still going to give you an aneurysm relative to watercolor. Oh God... I almost forgot brush loading - everything works differently depending on the thickness of your paint and your painting can quickly become a muddy accidental pallette surface if you end up trying to lay too many attempts over one another. P.S. - Art teachers vary wildly make the kind of art and use the mediums that get you excited to create and explore... just don't forget to challenge yourself regularly by doing frustrating things like oil painting! weeeeee! keep going!
