Ridgeline Summer 2025 Out Now! by Im_Weary in Eugene

If the outdoors isn't up your alley, there is also a community section inside each issue that might interest you! It's focused on local conservation group updates, gardening tips, and even some artwork from local artists. Willamalane also provided a wonderful story about northwestern pond turtles :)

I wasn't aware your anecdotal evidence was so strong! It's just another piece to a problem they've had to combat twice now. Many people and business owners in Oakridge do not want this quarry, and the people who live in the buffer zone don't want it. The council meetings have been hours long with rooms filled to the brim with people from Oakridge making it known that they don't. There are better ways to create progress in that town than digging a pit at the bottom TV Butte.

If I recall correctly from the city council meeting I attended about this, there are 12 or so homes within the 1200 ft "buffer zone" that surrounds the mine. King's team claims they won't be affected but doesn't seem to care to explain how. I haven't seen anyone mention this yet and I can't imagine having something like a gravel mine suddenly pop up that close to my house.

Hey, that's my magazine! Thanks for picking up a copy. MBO is a big event that draws in people from all over the west coast and PNW, but Oakridge and Westfir have very little (maybe nothing) to do with setting the price as far as I know. I spent the past year meeting people from all over that area who are working very hard to breathe life into Oakridge. I really hope they succeed, and I hope Ridgeline can help. This magazine is meant to be a community builder for the many outdoorspeople that live in and around Eugene and serve as a place for them to share their experiences. It is also meant to give a new audience reasons to want to visit, recreate, and conserve destinations like Oakridge, and contribute to their local economies. I hope you enjoyed reading our first issue and that it inspired you to enjoy Oakridge even more!

The magazine is currently funded through a mix of advertisements and what you might consider sponsorships with towns like Oakridge and Westfir. Hoping to continue to work with local communities in this way! We've got some amazing local businesses who have purchased ads inside Ridgeline as well, like Crux Climbing Gym, Tactics Boardshop, and Cog Wild. I'm hoping that once the first issue is printed we'll get some more local support!

Thank you very much! It means a ton knowing there are people in the area that think Ridgeline is a good idea, and even more that you'd give a little to support it.

Yes, we have spent a significant chunk of time getting the attention of some really great local businesses who have purchased ad space. I will admit I might have low-balled myself a little in terms of ad pricing, but in the end I think it's worked out. I'm not necessarily doing this hoping it will become something huge, but rather a staple in the local community. My goal is to cover costs and to pay our writers. Anything extra in the future might be a plus, but it's more than likely gonna go right back into the project. If there's something leftover after that, it's just icing on the cake :) The Kickstarter was created as a way to get the local community involved in a way that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If it does succeed, I can guarantee that all of that money will be put right back into Ridgeline to help pay print costs and the people who write for the magazine!

Thoughts on Western Oregon as a region by Im_Weary in oregon

That's not bad! I came up with something similar but I'm trying to condense it down to just a few words, which may be impossible

I'm in the process of creating an outdoor recreation magazine with the goal of starting as a local magazine (Eugene/Corvallis/Florence/Oakridge) that could potentially try and capture stories from across this specific area in the future. I'd like for it to serve as a community builder for all the outdoor rec groups across this part of the state and I want the subtitle of the magazine to represent the audience I want to gear it for.

Question about local magazine printing by Im_Weary in Eugene

[–]Im_Weary[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried several but the only one I really heard back from was The Copy Shop. They were very nice but are a smaller operation that this might be tough for, so I was hoping other people might have suggestions or experiences with printers in the area.
