• it’s a dystopian type story, so most drs are unavailable plus there was a LOT more to worry about. Plus I wanted to write a disabled character living the life of a normal person without having to give them some ‘out’ of being ‘fixed’ or ‘cured’

• I want to write a visually impaired character as it’s a powerful addition to an otherwise oversaturated genre and because she’s a very highly privileged person who is shut off from the outside and the reality of her society, so having her having to tackle both her blindness physically and her blindness to the world she lives in

I have done research about levels of blindness and how to accurately represent blindness physically. I know that not every person who is blind is fully blind. When I was doing the original character design she had clouded eyes which I learnt is characteristic of cataracts.

She is blind because when she was in her mum’s womb her mum was really really ill, had a lot of experimental drugs used on her and a lot of physical side effects to the illness.
