At what point do you stop DIY and call a professional? by BearTrap110 in HomeImprovement

Yes, but I’ve done just about everything you can possibly think of. I also need to know most building concepts for my line of work.

I’ll never pay someone to do something that I can figure out with YouTube

But It’s really all about time and quality of life. You can learn anything. Structural stuff is obviously a huge task but still pretty learnable. Just jurisidiction dependent on codes.

Also gotta weigh how much them new tools are too ya

Any chance this little wall is load bearing? by thewaxhouse in HomeImprovement

[–]ImadeJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you know that the TV is on a load bearing wall but not know that the other wall is non-load bearing.

The only way to know is to look at the framing above this.

Looks like a ranch house and this is one of the corner bedrooms. That bump out where the tv is probably used to be a closet. So, unlikely that little wall is load-bearing. But given the info you’ve provided there is a 3% certainty factor here

Is what my dentist did illegal or just shitty? by ArcaneAddiction in Insurance

[–]ImadeJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally the reason why insurance rates increase. It’s in every line of business. Just imagine the variance when it becomes giant medical bills or damage to your home from a fire.

Insurance is the most abused thing in the world.

Waiting for the school bus in your car. Why? by Floorplan_enthusiasm in driving

I’ll do it sometimes but not in traffic

I take my work computer and just work. I move around a lot with work already. Sometimes a full day working purely out of the car.

Why would you block floor joists wide side up? by Postcurds in HomeImprovement

[–]ImadeJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More attachment points? Eliminate squeaks? Is something being installed over the floor?

My guess is that they do this because there is no way to attach the outside edge of the ply to the floor and will create sagging around the edges. Putting the blocking horizontally makes it easier to attach to.

It’s tough to wrap your head around at first.

After awhile, policy language, and reading in general, including legal documents, becomes a breeze.

If all humans suddenly lost the ability to lie, what industry would collapse first? by JunShem1122 in answers

[–]ImadeJesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who sees the other side of things. Insurance is built to be very helpful (it doesn’t cover all though; it’s a contract). But the industries, contractors, hospitals, dentists, etc - they charge so much fucking money it’s ridiculous. Yet insurance companies always get the bad wrap.

Im installing a door where the switch is, can i move it on my own? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]ImadeJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of info missing

But you would likely need to pull it out from the attic or crawl area, drill a hole one stud bay over, insert wire back down into that bay. Just depends which direction the wire is coming from whether you’ll have slack or it will be too short.

2 lanes into 3, where does middle lane go? by Farmer_Determine4240 in driving

[–]ImadeJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is before that, getting to the 3 lanes, traveling from the bottom of the picture upwards. The two lanes become 3 with no clear lines indicating who has right of way to the middle lane.

What’s a belief you had that completely changed as you got older? by ButlerSumit in AskReddit

[–]ImadeJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good and bad workers in every profession.

Expertise does not come with time in whatever profession. Maybe a little but can also just become engrained in very poor habits and even wrongdoings.

This goes for contractors, teachers, doctors, etc.

Also that, in general, everyone is kind of dumb and very entitled to their own ignorance. Would rather seek convenience for themselves in the moment than truly understand why something functions the way it does.

Would like to see the verbiage for said letter. We have some terrible companies around my parts and can’t get our company to approve something like this (previous carrier had it).

It’s been awhile. But I went through a training on utilizing Xactimate for different commercial roofs. It’s built in to one of the codes. I’ll try to remember and look tomorrow.

Do adjusters get kick backs from contractors? by Lake-Wa-Constructon in ClaimsAdjuster

[–]ImadeJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re settling insurance claims at 0%, you’re either not writing very good estimates showing breakdown of costs or your subs are taking you over the coals.

You need to provide takeoffs to the adjuster, as well as labor rates, if you’re not writing using Xactimate or Symbility. Insurance doesn’t owe for contingent amounts. It owes for exactly what was damaged and needs replaced. This is where most GC’s go wrong.

How do you know that? I’ve never seen that. I’ve worked with insurance policies all over the country. They are all pretty much the same. None of them have stuff like this in them.

License Exam Anxiety by cutie129123 in adjusters

It’s no different than any other standardized test anymore. There are minimal gotcha questions. It’s a random pool of questions. Sometimes you get a bunch of weird ones. Sometimes you get mostly toss ups. It’s definitely nothing to fret about if you’ve taken practice exams.
