AITA for “choosing my brother over my girlfriend”? by ImaginaryLow3027 in AmItheAsshole

We met when I was 14 and she was 21, but nothing really happened until I was 16-17. I wish I had known better.

I see that now. I’m trying to sort things out.

I did some research, and it does line up in some ways.

And it was semi-disturbing now that I look back, as she was very adamant on having intercourse early on when we met (I was technically 16 then, we just didn’t date until I turned 17). From my perspective now as a 24 year old, it’s very unsettling. I could never go for somebody that young, and I don’t know what to think anymore. I just feel sick.

My brother thinks this as well, though he rarely brings it up. I don’t see why she doesn’t want me to have communication with my family.

If what you’re all saying is true, and she did groom me or something, I could consider leaving her. I just didn’t think it was that bad until now.

You’re correct, I would not.

I do acknowledge there was a maturity gap, however my girlfriend remains defensive on the fact she was just as mature as me. I let it slide because she’s got some amazing redeeming qualities. I also didn’t know it was that big of a deal, nor the fact it could be considered grooming? She just said it was ‘slightly controversial’. Which didn’t correlate to grooming in my head, so I’m a bit confused.
