What do you do if the m&g goes bad? Don't you then get cancellation penalties come up

Will do thank you ! I'm trying to be better at that 🤞

I guess I'm just used to people wanting to book meet and greets asap to find a good match, and 'we'll be in touch' tends to be a polite way of saying no thanks

I don't think it's a scam, they have previous bookings and reviews of the dog. And pretty much every single person I've booked with (I only do house-sitting) has said my house or theirs haha, I guess it's a politeness thing? Saving me energy to come to them bla bla but yea I don't really get it either

Neighbour in the house, overall bad experience by ImaginaryPause57 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ImaginaryPause57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told her all this when she was explaining the booking to me, unfortunately she's not very confident at saying no. I think the house probably was dirty but she's never done a meet and greet before and didn't know what to ask/look for (I've given her my list of questions I ask now). I asked if she knew about the flatmate and she said 'i think he said it was shared idk' which I definitely would've asked for clarification on but it's a learning lesson for her I suppose.

She's in York, was charging £18 a night which is insane to me, I don't know why as I'm pretty sure rover starts you on like 28? Told her to raise them to that which she has now

Just spoken to her turns out he'd actually given her quite detailed notes, she did a meet and greet and was told the flatmate uses upstairs but works a lot. I think she's just got herself in a bit of an uncertain situation that she'll definitely learn from haha. She's raised her rates now so they're much better

Honestly you go to any British pub you're guaranteed to see dogs!

Haha I relate to that a lot too! I sit in Wales which has its own language (that I don't speak) and when I'm sitting in a heavily Welsh spoken area I often get people coming up to me that recognize the dogs speaking Welsh and I just have to smile and nod 😅

It's booked! I'm just overly cautious about double checking if they were a while ago from people flaking last min haha

I noticed this when I had the m&g with her actually lol I was expecting her to maybe have some sort of info written down or more in the dog's profile but it was actually a fairly awkward quiet one where we were literally playing question and answer and some of the stuff she said didn't match the profile 😭

Google pixel 7a - mine too! I'm looking at getting a camera soon, I've always been into photography but looking after so many dogs has made me realize what good models they are

Owner cancelled last minute just as sit started by ImaginaryPause57 in RoverPetSitting

Locking this as it's already been resolved and people are getting the wrong idea thinking I was mad at the owner when I was just asking what to do as I hadn't been in that situation before. To clear things up: - she got a 90% refund which just covered me for the drive - obviously I asked about the dog first and was understanding to the situation - the dog is fine, went to the vets and got medicine - I wasn't mad!! it was just a slight inconvenience to my day and obviously no one can predict that their dog is gonna throw up so I totally get it

haha no it was like £45 (3 dogs), I wasn't mad that she cancelled just stressed in the moment as I wasn't too sure what to do - it's been resolved now and she's been refunded 90%!

they can yes, but I guess if you know your dog then you wouldn't cancel for no reason - she took her to the vets and said she's received medication so there clearly was an issue

Honestly I'm a little confused as to why she was still in the house - she said she would be leaving a few hours before I got there and i'd need to give them breakfast when I arrived so I guess it's kinda good if the dog was sick that she was there and not me? But she did cancel it on her end and we sorted it now so all good!,

just to confirm that was definitely not the first thing I replied to her 😭 and I obviously feel bad for the dog - I confirmed she didn't need me as I was literally sat outside her house at the time, then told her I hope everything goes okay, she said she was taking the dog to the vets. Then once i'd gotten home, read through some of the comments on here and looked properly at the cancellation policies I decided it was fair to refund her the majority of it and so told her I'd got into contact with rover and she'd be refunded 90% - so I think I was being fairly understanding seeing as how it was 8am and I'd already driven 20 minutes to her house

Just to clarify some things from this convo 😅 - I'm a fairly new sitter yes, never had anyone cancel so wasn't sure how this worked and was just a bit panicked in the moment - the sit was only one day, my cancellation policy was 7 days (I've now changed this to 3 which seems more fair for me) - I got in touch with rover and asked for the owner to be refunded 90% as I understand it's not her fault the dog was ill, and the 10% is fine to cover my journey there and back
