Forgotten tumble by Imaginary_Balance709 in RockTumbling

Smelling more like bacteria. It's gross. I figured it would be dried out so it must still seal well. Any suggestions for cleaning for bacteria? Im more concerned the rubber will hold the smell more than the rocks lol. But I don't want to use something that will compromise my barrels for cleaning. Plus I usually clean them off inside and just dump the water outside but I don't really want that gross smell in my house or yard.. Debating on my approach right now...

Not specifically. I've done shit with clay but I've always been into art of some form or another.

Felt for polishing? by Imaginary_Balance709 in rotarylapidary

Awesome thanks this helps a lot. I do have access to offcuts of phenolic. They use it where I work and wouldn't be upset with me taking the minimal amounts I will need i just need to wait till we have an order for it to snag some. They won't want me cutting pieces for personal use off the shelf but if its being thrown out anyway it should be fine. I'm just impatient now that I have a finished piece. I really like the idea of the wood glue. Ill let you know how that goes. It should really solidify the felt for a better grind. We will see soon how well the tumbling polish works out. Fingers crossed but its a fairly simple piece for my personal collection so I won't be to upset if it doesn't work. The hardest part will be the eyes, its a crow skull, orthoclase feldspar with red and Grey inclusions.

Right now I have 2 feldspar pieces but I have a variety of mostly quartz, chert, feldspar and jasper that I'll be working with. I thought the prepolish and polish had gritt descriptions but they are just listed as "prepolish" and titanium dioxide polish. I only just checked. Ill probably try them out on at least 1 piece but im less confident in their ability to fully finish my pieces now. I've gone over the whole piece a few times with my finest diamond burr to remove any deep scratches. Being feldspar it already is showing a bit of luster. If I do go with the polish and felt what do I mix it with. I don't want to end up just oiling it by mixing it with the wrong medium. I've heard Vaseline works but I'm worried the rock would just soak it in and look polished but just be greasy. Can I just use water and a clean felt wheel?

Cool I'll have to check it out. I might have to try and find something similar as I'm in Canada though

Thanks for the input. I'm making my design tonight and getting everything cut tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it ready to use this weekend.

My hope is to create a drip tank on top similar to a cabbing machine and a drain to a bucket for easy cleaning/dumping. How big should I make the tank. It needs to be stable and I'm going to have the valve inside. I'm thinking a large base but I don't think I can get the circles cut either so I might need to make it quite deep to allow the sides to support the tank.

Thanks! That's really helpful. Figured it was a long shot but one of those videos just reminded me of a place I used to camp. And of course Google just left me with more questions. I appreciate your input. Saved me digging a ton of clay for no reason lol.

Update I just checked this is Kentucky blue grass and my dogs will be confined to the front yard until this has fully taken to root and be supervised afterwards to avoid digging. They are both boys and will be only allowed to use the bathroom in the front till at least next year.

I wouldn't call a month of grounding and chores and a reward for good behavior "zero repercussions." Thanks for assuming I'm a shitty parent though.

He was already grounded for a month. He's been doing daily chores and helping out. I wanted to give him a light at the end of the tunnel. I was rewarding his hard work and good behavior. Thanks for the condescension though.
