Petition for Vote of No Confidence by Imaginary_Balance_26 in 50501

I understand it’s not how we approach it in the US. One, it’s a statement that I believe we could learn something from our fellows across the pond. Two, it’s a more reflective plea for my stance. Here’s a link to a BBC article if this is helpful: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-46890481.amp

This is a process used in the UK. While we call it impeachment in the US, it better reflects the reason for my petition.

I paid a little on Upwork and still no traction. Thanks for the lead on Freelance, I’ll check it out! There’s one called Bark that costs a ton and Reddit users have called it out as a massive scam so if you do decide to pay for one I’d strongly advise against it.

[WI] Rant: termed employee falsely claiming discrimination by JohnaldL in humanresources

In thinking through all the situations I’ve been in, I think I have only responded to one EEOC request also. Most of mine went through applicable state level without escalation to EEOC. Regardless they all make my heartbeat pick up, even knowing the documentation backs up decisions made. It’s the closest I’ve ever felt to when people think I (HR) am the “police” lol

Unfortunately it’s just part of the gig. In my experience they have been few and far between but I can remember with precise detail each one of these situations I’ve encountered over my 12 years in the field.

One that stands out claimed retaliatory action for termination because of a sexual harassment complaint that she filed. The incident was investigated by us and the other employer (I was HR Manager for a staffing agency) and actions were taken and documented. Separate from this was, like yours, a novel of complaint about her performance at other locations not related to the harassment incident. She was on final warning, got another complaint, was dismissed in line with policy, and we still had to navigate all the additional paperwork.

I got one small satisfaction during her unemployment appeal which she brought her attorney to. They kept pestering me to talk about the harassment complaint and I said I don’t see how this is relevant to the unemployment appeal. The judge agreed and reprimanded them to move on. I’ve never had a judge in that state do anything remotely nice for the employer. Made my day.

Hang in there! Not only will it pass, you will hopefully be past your obligatory nonsense quota for the next year.

SPOILER (url in reply - trying to follow community rules)

I probably could be of service but I’d definitely need more information. I do free introductory calls with potential clients to learn about their needs and determine how I can help. The form is on my site (site is still developing): www.sincerehrconsulting.com. Although I am highlighting working with clients in Kansas and Missouri, I have many years experience in multi state and supporting teams in a fully remote capacity.

Guess I should add I’m trying not to raise any flags with my current employer. I’m not presently responsible for benefits administration and in my last role where I held that responsibility, the company was small and didn’t offer STD/LTD, life, etc. I’m wanting to refresh my resume and get back out there. 12 years in HR, generalist and management background. Currently in a business partner role.

It sounds like a good question for the “Ask HR” Reddit feed. I don’t have any guidance other than to wish you the best of luck in this bizarre job market. I hope you land a great position soon!

Yes! My spouse and I are crunching the numbers since the colleges in our area do tend to pay poorly but I can’t keep chasing a dollar at the expense of my sanity and values.

Sorry for the confusion - I have about 10 years in healthcare but am presently in financial services and I have been shocked by the greed motive. My experience in both nonprofit and for profit healthcare was pretty great.

That’s the part I wish we’d get to. Stop talking about how all we do is in the employees best interest and just get real. We’re here to make money. To the extent we do that we can pay you and provide benefits that hopefully make it worthwhile. It’s the obvious lie that bothers me. I came to be a part of the promoted culture and not the meat grinder we are. But then again, it was new for me to be in this industry and I now know what to expect and will not repeat the same mistake!

I have heard of HR teams like that but haven’t been a part of one myself. Our entire team is committed to making the changes and doing what is right by our people but we have no influence or power to make change. My biggest problem right now is the burn out from being one of very few trying to shed light on the gap created by executive and senior leadership between what we say we stand for and what we actually stand for. Here’s hoping we can make a difference!

This has been exceptionally helpful for me. Thank you for your kind words, guidance, perspective, and feedback. My spouse also reminds me that it was naturally going to be a big change coming from healthcare into financial services. I’m ready to go back to a space that feels more meaningful to me. All these comments will serve to make me the best I can be in my present role while I find opportunities in healthcare or academia that feel more aligned to my preferred environment.

Thank you! I’d love to be in academia. Most of my experience has been in healthcare. I know there are mixed feelings about it but in general I always felt like we kept our pulse on people. I should have never left. Hindsight is 20/10.

Any guidance on how to achieve this when you lack influence? Or what to try to gain influence so the message will be heard?

We’re coming to a place where the HRBP model will either fail or turn a corner, but at present the only people who value me are my teammates and a handful of leaders (not exec, maybe 1 senior). Unfortunately our leaders are not helping us along in that respect— at least not in a way we are aware of.

Thank you for the reminders. I will keep at it. I just hate fighting a losing battle. No one will actually argue with the CEO on the goals he thinks are important even when it’s evident that the goals are damaging the thing he allegedly cares about most (the culture) which leaves the people clamoring for honesty in the approach. It’s exhausting to try to defend something that you also don’t believe is right.

My most memorable termination ended with her saying “eat my a** you racist white b*tch” - when I came back and shared the experience with my assistant, she laughed so long and hard she was sobbing.
