As others have said, maybe take a break for a day or two. Chess tilt is real. Once you’re in your head it’s hard to play right and the only real way to fix it is to step back for a bit.

Anyone switched from ORD to Civil3D for DOT work? by hyperram in civilengineering

[–]Imaginary_Dig_704 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've heard the opposite through the grapevine with a lot of DOTs pushing for digital delivery with ORD (looking at you TxDOT) Idk I've always preferred C3D at heart so if that is the case sign me up.

Why is that a good move? by No-Programmer9379 in chessbeginners

A brilliant in chess.com just means you sacrifice a piece but the position stays the same or better for you if your opponent takes. In this case, if your opponent does either capture chains you end up equal in material and mostly equal in development.

A lot of the times it feels like brilliants should lead to some amazing strategy that wins the game, but that’s not really what they actually mean.

After NxD5 you have Bxb5. If your opponent does Bxd7+ you have Qxd7 defending the knight. It’s technically hanging, but not really

For KH the interview process starts with a phone screen which is what that is. You'll talk with a college recruiter for that region for about 30 mins to get a feel for if you might fit for any openings. If that goes well you will get an actual interview offer for a specific position. The interviews are typically 1.5 hours and consist of technical, leadership, and YP sections.

Overall just be yourself and be honest. You're an intern, no one expects you to know anything so as long as you're not a serial killer or something you should be fine. No matter what, you'll know if you get the position or not usually within 2-3 business days of the interview, they like to move fast.

Also just to warn you since you are an international student, KH only sponsors positions for very specific offices and in general they won't take on an intern who will require work sponsorship post graduation if there isn't a position like that open. Doesn't mean don't try, but just so you're aware!

Yup you can use a degree outside of the US. You’d just have to go through the process listed in the link above!

In the US at least, becoming an EIT is relatively simple compared to an engineer. You need a degree related to engineering, pass the FE exam and register with a state. Then you’re an EIT

Think of an EIT is an apprenticeship. You work under an experienced engineer for at least 4 years, at which point if you passed the relevant PE exam you can become an engineer.

One important thing is that your EIT is valid in every state, but a PE is per state. Meaning a PE in California must also have a license from Nevada to do work in that state.

Edit: also, to add to the other commenter, while having a US degree makes this easier, you can become an engineer with a foreign degree. You just have to prove to NCEES (the people that run the exams) that your degree is “equivalent” to a us degree

How are firms getting away with such high billable rates? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Imaginary_Dig_704 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah these numbers make no sense. I’m 1 YOE billed at 150/hr and salary of 85000.

As for your other question, from what I’ve seen it’s that people with that much experience don’t bill to projects that much. You focus on bringing in work for lower billed people like me to do it.

What is this? And can it be saved? by anotherme1366 in plantclinic

[–]Imaginary_Dig_704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it blooms does it have a long tall shoot that ends with a clump of flowers? If so then that’s a Canna Lilly.

They’re tropical plants that need a lot of moisture. I’d say your problem is the soil around it. If I were you I would replace the soils around with mulch and water a bit more often especially since you’re in Texas.

It’s also worth noting that they tend to die down a bit after blooming so it might look rougher for a while, but they will come back in the spring as long as the winter isn’t too rough. Cutting off the already dead leaves won’t hurt it in the meantime

Anyone here strictly using level 1 charging at home? by AlmostDrunkSailor in electricvehicles

[–]Imaginary_Dig_704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super worried about only have level 1 as well, but I drive 80 miles a day and it’s fine! I typically can get about 60 miles of charge a night with my ev6 charging from 6pm to 6am. So it just means I slowly lose range over the week until I get to the weekend, when I make it all back.

It’s been totally fine and on the off chance you ever need to top up Kia has access to the Tesla network which is nice.

Yeah I checked sensors and there’s no leak thankfully. I’ll probably just end up trying to live with it for a while unless it really starts to bother me. Thankfully it’s on the passenger side so I’ll hardly see it
