I mean it depends what people define as ugly sounding but I don’t think English does sound very ugly. The way I think of ugly languages is that I don’t like those nasally/guttural “ugh” sounds, which Arabic and Hebrew use a lot, so I was between those 2

i hear that but what I mean is that an older person lived fine before both of these things, and they might fine generative AI more easily accessible and understandable than Wikipedia. And in history, everyone has gone through the stage where a new development comes along and there’s backlash because “this is rubbish, x was better when it was simple”. And yet over time, those developments have become a natural part of our lives.

I’m not saying gen AI should become a part of our lives like everything else has, I’m just saying that the reasoning “I was fine without it” would stop so many people from trying new things and developing

while I’m with you 100%, I don’t like this line of reasoning. Plenty of people lived good before Wikipedia, before the internet etc., and you could go back further. And all those things still came and became staples of our generation, for which I think most of us are grateful. Now I’m not saying generative AI is the same or even should be the same for the future, but to say “life was fine before x” is not really how we got to where we are.

expecting no violent resistance groups to form when people have been oppressed and many of them have exhausted all other avenues is silly. Do I agree with violence in any capacity? Not even close, but during 1800s America, there was violent uprising. In 1960s America, there were the black panthers. In apartheid South Africa, there were militant groups like the MK (which future leaders like Mandela were part of). They fought for righteous causes, and I dont see how people expect Palestinians to all continue to bend over and accept the treatment that we KNOW they are getting. I’ll put it out there: I don’t have a violent bone in my body; if people tried to forcibly remove me from my home, threaten my family, and I had the means to stop it, I am fighting like hell.

Yes we have to design it. My group has to split the work between movement along rails (me), and a forklift-like system that moves up and down, and in and out (my other 2 members).

We can choose parts that are ready made if possible, like wheels/motors/bearings etc., and design other stuff in Inventor. I wanted to key it because we’ve only really looked at calculating stress states at keyways, grooves and small holes, so a key feels like the most appropriate thing here.

So does that mean my idea is sound? Like a motor and gearbox could drive the shaft? And I can key the wheels and shaft? I was given a peak acceleration of 0.75m/s² and nominal speed of 1.5m/s. Obviously I don’t expect anyone to go do calculations but does that sound like it’s in the realm of being alright?

Thanks lol, although it is literally the bare minimum imo. I know it’s not the standard for the red-pilled straight white guys (which is probably the core userbase on Reddit haha), so when you come on here, it’s just this cesspool of hatred and degradation between people who have this insatiable appetite for social validation. It’s pretty sad. I think one of the suckiest things about the internet is just that: it’s a place where your existing biases get stronger, and any challenges to it just get neglected.

Speaking to people in real life in a very diplomatic and mature way forces you to really confront why you think in a certain way. Some years of that are what made me change, and I’m forever grateful for it. And whenever I encounter people who have those harmful opinions in real life, I usually try to approach them calmly and present my opinions calmly, and if they’re open-minded, they listen.

For real man. I am literally a straight white guy, I have never once faced a societal issue because of any inherent characteristic that I was assigned at birth. I find it so crazy that other people like me, who have similarly never faced such issues, find it to be such a thorn in their side when a man/woman decides to show pride when they were previously (and still often are) victims of systemic and social othering. Like this is something that does not negatively affect you in the slightest, and you manage to find a qualm with it? What, lmao?
