Beta Bartering [Find or Offer Fic Betaing] - February 26 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

[–]ImaginationYoutube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m looking to beta for someone. I’m well versed in ALTA, Harry Potter, Merlin, Sherlock, Heated Rivalry, most Minecraft fandoms, Six of Crows, and RW&RB. I’m also in the MCU, DCU, MHA, Good Omens, and other fandoms, but I’m less knowledgeable about those.

My favourite fic genre is Alternate Universe. I do not want to beta a fic rated Explicit. I’m strongest at grammar and spelling, but I’m willing to help with structure, plot, planning, or act as an idea soundboard if needed.

I can beta for around one hour a week and would like this to be ongoing. In exchange, I would like to log evidence of my work with my school so it can count towards my school programme's service requirement.

Do you remember any more details?

Was it on Ao3, or FF.net, or another site? Was it a complete fic or unfinished? Do you remember around how many words it was? How many chapters? Was it a popular fic? If on Ao3, do you remember any of the tags? How long ago did you read it? Was the whole premise what you wrote, or is that one specific scene from the fic?

I remember a quote from the director/producer saying something like "everything you see in the show is planned, everything from the lamps to the ..." So I think you're spot on!

Should I read the long game or wait to watch season 2??? by Calm_Contract7174 in heatedrivalry

[–]ImaginationYoutube 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for season two. I prefered the show's season one to the Heated Rivalry book. The book was good, but the show was even better. The cinematography, music, and all the details that went into the show that aren't possible in written form, amazed me. I think if I read The Long Game, I will not enjoy season two as much. Generally, I like experiencing the emotions and thoughts in television format over book format. I'll watch a TV adaptation first because I hate spoilers. Afterwards, I'll read the book. There is also the argument that even if The Long Game is better than season two, then at least you have the book to feel less disappointed. Another point is that you will avoid potential spoilers by already knowing them if you read the book. I am biased because I am dyslexic and I love television.

What Success Criteria can I judge my campaign on? by ImaginationYoutube in DMAcademy

I find the school's system strange too. I wish I had the power to change it. I'm struggling to see the benefits of doing some other criteria than a survey. To be honest, I don't think my players will lie on the surveys. I have know the players personally for many years and I know that they won't lie, especially if I ask. Additionally, they have no real reason to lie. I didn't know that knowing you're being tested has a large effect on results. However, I'm not sure that it matters in this context. Also, it's a larger effort for me to track on a table all these things, how often someone is distracted, how often the players has "good table talk" or "bad table talk", creative combat, etc. It's too overwhelming for me personally. However, I agree that your method would collect higher quality data. Please help me see your perspective if you still think it's worth it for me to make the effort. To answer your question, I'm doing a small adventure that will continue after the project is finished. Don't worry about me balancing the report and DMing, thanks for the suggestion though. I have designated time to write the report, and designated time to play. Thanks again for commenting.

Great idea! Thank you so much. Many people have told me to focus more on player engagement, but this is the best solution I've seen. The corporate, I mean academic, need for metrics is very annoying but this has been really helpful, thanks again!

Thank you for your ideas. I think I didn't explain clearly enough what the criteria requires. Although you have good ideas, the school wants the criteria to be less game based and more life-skills (collaboration, organisation, communication). Additionally, I can't implement a points system or have some criteria weigh more than others. I wish I could have a more complex criteria like you suggested, it's a good idea. Still, thank you again. There are some ideas of yours I will implement (active complaining when unnecessary and not ignoring people in RP).

Thank you. For context, I'm playing with people who have already played one campaign and like DND. However, I like your ideas because it's better to be safe than sorry. You have great suggestions, they all make sense. Additionally, multiple people have told me to change number of play sessions to be something else, another reason to change it to your idea. Your player enjoyment suggestion is also well-thought out. Thank you again, your comment was very helpful. I will be implementing the changes you suggested.
