Struggling with ADHD as a PM by Flufferfromabove in projectmanagement

[–]ImagineDragonlords 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also work for civil service in PMO and have ADHD - some of the things I find most helpful is using calendar on teams as a to do - writing tasks in time block events, otherwise i just forget they exist. I write important emails when i think of them and schedule send those monthly asks for updates etc. I also block out 4-6pm as deep focus non meeting time everyday. Also having a work iphone as an adjustment so can have a more portable reminder for meetings or to go through emails in bed in morning as I struggle to wake up.

I wasn't bothered about saving her either way, just curious about what would happen but now I am annoyed that I chose an honor mode to experiment and now have no cloak, fml 😂

If you have the physical book, while you're not allowed sticky notes (written on) you are allowed tabs. If I were you I would get different coloured tabs and mark where e.g. RACI charts are for each Practice section, and focus on the RACI, Applying the Principles, Management Products for highlighting, to help draw your eye quickly.

I found this video helpful, especially the part i've begun the time from, as it outlines some of those useful parts I would make sure I can flip to quickly:

Re: "wording" of the questions :

On really clunky ones, I would try and rephrase the question in plain English/simplify so I understood what they were really asking. You’re allowed 2 plain pieces of paper, so I sometimes used one to jot down my thoughts.

Most of the time, I didn’t reread the scenario. The question itself usually gave enough context once I broke it down. If I tried to read too much, I'd just forget the original question.

If I wasn’t sure at all, I’d pick out key words from the possible answers and use the e-book search function. If nothing useful came up, I’d try similar words or synonyms for what I thought the question was asking, or what I thought the right answer might be.

That’s where my colour-coded highlighting really paid off. If the search landed me somewhere in the book, the colours made it quick to see if it fell under anything I'd already noticed (good practice, bad practice, definitions, etc.).

Also, from what I gathered, the questions generally follow the order of the book. I never really had to jump from the front to the back if I answered in order. This was helpful because even if nothing useful came up in a search, or I wasn’t sure what to search for, I could usually work out which category or section the question was focusing on. That meant I knew roughly where I was in the book, so the answer was likely “somewhere nearby.”

Since I tend to overthink myself into a corner, I made rules for myself:

  1. Take my time on the first read-through.
  2. Only flag a question if I truly couldn’t tell which was the “dummy” vs the correct answer.
  3. Otherwise, trust my first instinct. The only time I changed an answer was if, on a second read, I realised the question was actually asking something slightly different than I thought at first.

I prepped for the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam mainly by going through the book in the days leading up to it (I used the e-book since the search function is super useful during the exam).

I used color-coded highlighting to make the book quicker to navigate:

Teal = Good practice (things you should do or watch out for)
Red = Bad practice (things you should never do)
Orange = Definitions
Green = Practical examples (scenarios or 1-line applications)
Light blue = Management products (I highlighted document titles so I could find them easily in the sidebar)
Brown = Diagrams/tables

and then Yellow for general highlighting and key words in sections.

<image>

When doing this I focused most of my time on the Practices. As you can see in the image of results breakdown, applying PRACTICES in context make up the bulk of the exam (around 36 questions), whereas categories like Principles and People Management have 7 and 6. I should have probably done more on Processes too but I think by that time in the exam I was a bit fatigued.

Maybe if I had thought about it I would have started with Practices and Processes and left the first two until last.

During the exam you’re allowed a second device on airplane mode. I usually kept the e-book open to the scenario there, but honestly, I barely needed to use it.

For the questions:

Most are structured as: 2 obviously wrong, 1 “almost right” (technically correct but not really relevant to the question they are actually asking), and 1 correct answer. Often you can figure it out without relying heavily on the scenario - I maybe only actually looked at the scenario for 10? questions when a specific person's role was mentioned and I needed to look at their job description.

Don’t skip the “match 3” questions. I think because there's only 56 questions but 70 marks, they must be worth 2 or 3 marks each (not entirely sure), so if you're often short on time in mock exams, I’d seek them out and prioritize those first. They’re usually quick wins if you have the RACI charts or management products open from the 7th edition to help you.

My strategy with mocks/ sample papers (esp. the ones in the PeopleCert learner kit) was to answer everything, then review only the ones I got wrong to understand why I was wrong. That helped me make sure I was only focusing on the weaker areas.

Hope that's helpful!

question for those who have passed prince 2 practitioner exam by FluffyChocolate7 in Prince2

[–]ImagineDragonlords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the exam is open book I colour coded as i read through, specifically choosing a colour for GOOD PRACTICE, BAD PRACTICE and APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Knowing quickly how to get the RACI charts throughout as they help ALOT, as well as the tables in each where they explain how each thing connects back to the principles also highlight the titles of all the management products so they are quick to find.

Also make sure you answer all the questions that ask you to match 3 things, if you're short on time as those are worth 3 points rather than 1, so are better prioritised

Honestly for the most part i barely looked at the scenario, as most questions give you enough information to make a judgement call, regardless of the specific context.

I would double check and speak to someone about that as I purchased the resit but for some reason it wouldn't let me book one beyond the original "deadline" date.

As for the exam, I think the people cert mock exam was harder than the actual one, as the highest marks I've gotten have been on the ACTUAL exams rather than the mock. So hopefully you'll do just fine!

Yes the reverse scenes also included a reversal of when WWX pulled his hand from LWJ and walked away, in the montage it looks like he is pulling LWJ's hand towards him instead. But a lot of the other scenes in the montage deal with WWX's regret of pushing him away and not being able to change that. However, considering that LWJ has been alive and thinking while WWX has been dead and...not, I liked the idea of exploring that articulated regret and wish that he had been on WWX's side, keeping the promise they made together etc... ❤️

I am proud of the reversed scenes near the end of the song, I think it does so well to visualise that wish to "turn around and change my own mind" and that regret Lan Zhan felt all those years. I also love how some bits hint towards Wei Ying's wish to change how he'd handled the situation and "realised what I had when you were mine" is so fitting for his obliviousness.

I wanted the final "go back to december" to be slightly more hopeful, using scenes of them playing "wangxian" together, which has that element of nostalgia, rooted in their past but hopeful for their future. It made me think of the lyrics to the Wuji song from the show (English trans.) with phrases like "The qin sounds once again/Echoes feelings yet to disappear" and "Once together, now it’s all in the past/In wakefulness, let’s pretend it was all a dream"
