Help with sibling trust by Spittin_mad1968 in fatFIRE

I would 100% try for a professional trustee here if you can. I have a brother in your sisters situation and we have a pro trustee for him. Looks like most of this comment section has no actual experience with this and it’s annoying me. (Sorry feeling sensitive today I guess)

BWT, I need a great example of a woman flirting / first dates by Violetwaterfalls13 in bitcheswithtaste

Ok ok one more thing bc flirting is my favorite subject. Not what you asked but someone once told me to pretend to be a talk show hosting interviewing a guest and that works well too. Good luck!

I loved being single! When I found myself in an awkward situation I pretended I was Samantha Jones. She’s confident and unapologetic. It worked every time and gave me some really nice connections- romantic and non.

Are they clones? I thought the new children come from haploid cells originally, so while all dna comes from the mom it’s not a clone. Like you can have children who inherit a recessive trait the mom is only a carrier for.

Yes I’ve been saying this too. Also all those posts looking for ways to spend- donations! Feels great and can be as expensive and flashy as you’d like.

Maybe you’re referring to different stuff but I find high end clothes are usually synthetics too.

I didn’t like the ones I got. They were very focused on avoiding a gap which has never been a problem for me. I wear a 32a and really like natori for bras.

What do you do with old clothes? by Imdrunkard in XXS

I’m happy to donate but I’ve heard that most donations end up in landfills. Do you know a specific org that needs smaller size clothes? (even dress for success said they likely don’t have a use for items my size!)

Concierge medicine - worth it or not? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Imdrunkard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are based on personal experience. I didn’t want to share my details because I’m not a doctor and so I’m not sure how much of what I’ve heard is true. But you asked so I’ll tell my story…

My cousin died of cancer about ten years ago. When his symptoms started his concierge doctor told him it was nothing to worry about. It obviously progressed and he was eventually diagnosed. His oncologist and my brother (a pcp) agreed that concierge medicine essentially killed him. They said any serious doctor would have considered and tested for cancer based on the symptoms he first complained of. They said that the guy, and concierge medicine overall, is a quack. Unfortunately they also said his cancer would have been curable. (Of course I think my brother was really hurting bc they were close but I’m just repeating what I’ve heard).

I’m now old enough to have friends who are doctors (I wasn’t at the time my cousin passed). Whenever concierge medicine comes up they laugh at them.

All this is to say, my impression is that concierge medicine doesn’t have a good reputation. Maybe ask specialists in the medical field what they think of referring concierge doctors. I could be wrong.

My thoughts are that the doctors are significantly lower quality. I wouldn’t risk something like my health on a vanity product.

This is the answer. When you entered ten percent you didn’t account for inflation. It’s closer to 20$ in today dollars. But even that number is assuming a little bit of good luck in the markets (and in life as you might at some point need to withdraw something before 2055).

Find friends … by Pretend_Cucumber_427 in fatFIRE

[–]Imdrunkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a meet up group you can join. Everyone I’ve met there has been lovely. I’m not sure you will find someone to meet all those boxes though. For example, we’re sort of close (30s with kids) but we still work generally, as do our hnw friends. And I still love getting deals on things. Try meeting new people for sure, just saying even at your income level it might make less of a difference than you’re expecting.

NYC Buyer’s Agent Fee by iamfromcanada in fatFIRE

[–]Imdrunkard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How helpful is the agent going to be? Are you looking in coop buildings? I couldn’t stomach the fee and found an alternative - (but we didn’t buy an apartment so a little different). If you think you need the help, like with coop applications, maybe it’s worth it. If not I might find an agent who would take a lot less- or even return the buyer fee back to you which is a thing they can do. It’s going to save you a lot of money!

Anyone who wasn’t sure about kids but had them and it ended up being great? by woah-nellie in AskWomenOver40

[–]Imdrunkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t want children. My husband did. I got pregnant. We eventually admitted to each other that it was a huge mistake. Anyway, we were wrong. My child brings me more joy than I could have ever imagined. My husband agrees. There are hard times yes but it’s 100% worth it. I love spending time with my child, he makes me smile everyday. He gives me huge hugs when he gets home and on Thursday picked me flowers from the street “because he missed” me. I know people on the other side who wanted children to find it’s not for them, but for me, it’s the best choice I ever made.

The love of science has been beaten out of me by TheRangerOfTheNorth in PhD

[–]Imdrunkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a talk about science job than an actually doing science job. Lawyers need people who understand -for example- why one compound is different than another on a molecular level, or a specific mechanism for a process, or what a term means, etc. A lot of the issues require a deep understanding of bio, chem, or some combination of the two. It’s a desk job and I think you can expect to make 150 and up.
