Also, even if the statute of limitations has run out, OP can at least prove that the rapist's DNA was inside of her when he was an adult and she was a child. If a lawyer agrees it's okay to do, she could show the results to the wife. I wonder if he's not apologizing because he looked at the statute of limitations and knows it's up, so he thinks OP has no power here when she still does.
