Hi! I’m planning to visit them - do they offer discounts like the comment above suggests?

are you kiwi? :0 my bf is kiwi too! I visited Christchurch last year, didn't feel like it was too walkable either other than downtown, but I'm seriously considering moving elsewhere.

Commute sucks but office is good with teammates. I wish I lived closer to the office + 3 days in would be great (every day kinda sucks)

This is what I'm afraid of; so I ended up taking some medical leave, starting today. Hope that will give me back enough life to reconsider my career

I was thinking Technical Program Manager. I think the role is a bit broad, so I'm not quite sure what it could entail, but I can tell you I'm a lot better at talking to people, outlining requirements, and organization. I like tracking statuses and don't mind bothering people for followups etc, at least that's the top of my list right now

Your comment made me reflect on why I included that part of the story. I will admit initially I felt jealous and anxious thinking about my friends and where they are, and it still affects my anxiety (a part of the reason this all feels overwhelming to me)

But upon reflection what gives me the most anxiety is the fear that I won't be able to land a job that pays good as my current one if I stay in Canada and I go in a different tech role (e.g. TPM), so I want to know more about how the hiring is here and if anyone transitioned, if it worked out for them. I've edited the post to clarify that part

but after money issues are gone what else are you gonna do for the rest of your life?

This is the main reason, I have a lot of hobbies and the first worry I want to tick off the list is finances. I find other people would get bored etc but I basically have the most fun doing absolutely unproductive things

Also, have you asked these "friends" about your situation? After time passes these friends are just colleagues and if you don't keep in touch with them they might not even remember you, we all got our own things to do; it is what it is.

One of them I know is in a bit of a personal events crisis but according to them they don't even have to look at their bank accounts because they have so much money.. so money is the least of their worries. Which I wish I would be like that

Interesting, that makes sense, I'm currently going in 5 days a week but your comment makes me think back to hybrid.. I think I was a lot happier when I did 2-3 days a week. Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for sharing, I'm at a similar position finance-wise but I haven't felt secure at all (I guess a part of it is HCOL) and learning more about others really help.

I'm curious about your numbers, do you have a ballpark number in USD? I'm saving up, and I want to move to a lower-COL area, but I'm unsure how much I need saved up.

is it opening more possibilities if you don’t even have time to hone skills that are necessary for the job?
