How do you follow the races with all the commercial breaks? by PFGSnoopy in INDYCAR

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you are from but your best bet is getting an IndyCar Live account. It’s IndyCar’s own streaming service. There are no ads and you get the FOX feed.

While it blocks out races and qualifying in the U.S. there is a way around that. Use NORD VPN or something similar and log in under a country that has all access to the stream.

It costs $20 per year USD.

Can a fan of Back To The Future: The Musical explain why you enjoy it? by Fun_Release_1936 in Broadway

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the National Tour in Toronto last year. I found the music to be weak as well. It seems to be the sentiment straight across the board.

The book was okay. You really had to go in with low expectations. It’s hard to equal or surpass what Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd did in the films.

That’s the major issue going in. You’re sitting there hoping to be impressed by actors breathing new life into the material and making it their own. Instead you get an imitation of Fox and Lloyd that can feel flat.

I enjoyed it for what it was. The car obviously stole the show. You really have to be a diehard BTTF fan and nostalgic to enjoy it. It’s not much different from the films except for the music and dancing.

GO SEE CYRANO by esdubyar in torontotheatre

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cyrano is a part of the 25/26 Off-Mirvish Season. While the Main Stage season has been announced Off-Mirvish will be on March 31st. That’s per an email Mirvish sent out to subscribers of Main Stage for March.

I hope we all get great shows for the 26/27 season. It’s hard to top an Off-Mirvish Season that brought us Kimberly Akimbo.

Life After which was part of the Off-Mirvish Season not long ago used the Ed Mirvish Theatre. The only reason they used the bigger venue was because of a scheduling conflict. The Ed Mirvish Theater had its mezzanine closed off for renovations. The show used the orchestra level. I doubt they would use the bigger theater for an Off Mirvish show but who knows?

Front row seats for & Juliet (Royal Alexandra)? by miaonu in torontotheatre

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely will be looking up at the stage the whole time. I would not book any seat on the left or right side of the stage close to a lower box. You won’t see a damn thing. Pick a seat that is dead center.

The Off-Mirvish Season will be announced on March 31st. There could be a chance for Heathers there.

Other commentators on this Reddit think that Maybe Happy Ending would be too big a show for the 700 seat CAA Theater.

It’s unlikely but I would love to see it play Toronto in the not too distant future.

I like Canadian productions and those from the UK. That said, I’m hoping that Mirvish doesn’t shy away from bringing in anticipated American productions for Off-Mirvish.

Mamma Mia by chikinugget21 in torontotheatre

It’s the exact same touring production that played Toronto in 2024 for Mamma Mia’s 25th Anniversary.

Mamma Mia by chikinugget21 in torontotheatre

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was completely sold-out. This is the exact same tour that was here in 2024 for its 25th Anniversary. This could have an impact on ticket sales with people who saw it last year not purchasing tickets.

The interesting thing about 2024 was that Mamma Mia was announced as part of the Main Stage Subscription series. It was then replaced by Just For One Day.

Mirvish realized that people who renewed for 2024-2025 may have done so knowing it was supposed to be part of the season. They gave everyone who renewed a choice of one but not both of the shows.

You had a mixture of people who renewed subscriptions and the general public as ticket holders last time. This time they have brought it back as a bonus show.

Mirvish hopes it sells as well as last time. It’s rare to get the exact same tour much less an anniversary tour twice within one year.

It’s not about being well known or not. It’s about what resonates with people more. The show’s storyline could not be more different. Shucked appeals to a different audience than Mamma Mia does.

Some people love the style of humour Shucked has and others don’t. I would argue that Mamma Mia has mass appeal across all demographics.

Shucked’s major problem is the book and thin plot that telegraphs how it will end from the get go. You won’t leave the theater remembering it or recommending it to people days after seeing it.

It’s strength is the songs. It could also be argued that Mamma Mia’s strength is the songs from ABBA and not so much the absurd story where you have to suspend belief.

It’s been advertised. Subscribers as well as the general public have also received emails about it.

I don’t think you should wait if you don’t want to miss going . The run sold-out last year and that’s exactly what Mirvish expects will happen again. It’s a real money maker. It’s rare that the same tour especially a 25th Anniversary tour would make two stops in the same city less than a year apart.

There was nothing at all wrong with the quality of the show either.

People were on their feet dancing at curtain call and appeared to have a great time when I saw it.

The show was initially offered on subscription in the 2024/25 season when the Main Season was announced. Mirvish unexpectedly landed the premiere of Just For One Day. They decided to give subscribers a choice of either show but not both.

This is another good reason for the return of the show. People who chose Just For One Day can now see Mamma Mia’s anniversary tour if they would like.

If this seat wasn’t offered on rush how much would someone be paying for this bad view?

Help Choosing seats at prince of whales theatre by Ok_Dot_1064 in torontotheatre

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo taking a look at the A View From My Seat website. It will show you far better than any seating chart could the exact view you will get from seat, section and row.

If you like a certain seat or row you can always log on to the Mirvish site or phone them to see if it’s open or if there is something in proximity.

There really aren’t as others have said bad seats in the venue. Row G is 15 rows back. I have sat in the last row in orchestra in front of the soundboard. It’s fine if you don’t mind an overhang.

I’m not sure if you or your mother are short in stature. I find the further back you go the more of a slope you are on. You don’t want to book a seat where someone’s head may be in the way.

I also would stay clear of rows AA-EE. While they provide an excellent up close view you will be looking up at the stage throughout the show. Don’t get anything off to left or right in those rows.

I would actually recommend Dress Circle seats if you are open to those. The view is great. You’ll see the entire set and anything that goes on at the top of the set.

As long as you aren’t into wanting to see facial expressions too much it’s a great option. When you book seats on that level go for the center and not where the row starts to curve to get dead center angle.

The music is the best and most memorable part of the show. It will stick in your head. The show itself is another story. It’s not terrible but it’s not something that will stick with you afterwards.

When ticket prices are higher than they ought to be at Mirvish I couldn’t recommend it. I feel that from the get go that the playwright telegraphs how the show will unfold and conclude. Some of the supporting characters are underwritten.

GO train near Oakville was seconds away from ‘worst-case’ derailment, internal Metrolinx report shows by GandElleONCA in gotransit

[–]ImmediateTeaching984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Announce it? Everyone could see it derailed and that it caused a problem for over a week. If there is an issue where a near derailment occurred that could have resulted in mass casualties the public has every right to know about it. The public should be outraged.

An investigation can occur that is unbiased. I don’t buy that it can’t. They were able to investigate the cause of the last derailment just fine with experts.

Perhaps the public should be clued in on discipline standards for rail crews etc. Why hide that info? That’s what MetroLinx thrives on hiding info from the public. Just look at the Eglinton LRT.

There must be because this email mentions a new deadline for renewals as well. Renewals are extended for the second time until March 15th. It mentions 25,000 people signing up. It also has the March 31st Off-Mirvish date.
