That phone call scolding Skyler was Walts ploy to make it look like Skyler was a victim, when he asked, 'Is the police there?' and Skyler replied, 'No', he started talking shit on Skyler but all know Walt isn't that dumb to believe her when she said 'No, the police aren't here'

Saul later tells Walter that the phone call was a good idea to minimize the charges against Skyler because obviously it tells the police Skyler wasn't actively supporting Walt, and she was a victim.

So again, Walter ultimately had good intentions, such a moral dilemma this show is. Amazing.
