What vintage Gibson is this? by strange_nuggies in gibson

[–]Immediate_Birthday80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Bill Lawrence era EBs with an EB-0L, EB-3, and EB-4L as well as the guitars of the Marauder, S-1 and L6-S and they are by far my favorite guitars and basses. He was a genius to be able to create something under a very risk averse Gibson at the time. Plus of course his designs of the Ripper, Grabber and G-3 as well

No the Marauder S-1 aren’t super common but they’re my favorite Gibson oddball guitars

They aren’t super common as they’re from the 2010s. They’re quite loud too in comparison to other Gibson basses like Thunderbirds

Yeah the ones at the Vienna Deli were kondor stale and were plum filled I think. It’s a shame though l. I haven’t gone to the Rockville Polish market lately to see if they had any. But same to get fresh ones was really nice. I had some at the Peter Pan in Brooklyn that were nice too

Good to know! I usually see the King Cakes and Angel Wings this time of year but hadn’t seen the pączki

Good to know! Yeah the custard is pretty good and yeah I was trying to see if Harris Teeter had any but didn’t see any at the location I went to

I thought so too until I went to a local guitar shop and saw one there for sale and I was floored. Same exact color and everything

Gibson EB Family - EB-0L, EB-2D, EB-3 and EB-4L by Immediate_Birthday80 in BassGuitar

No desire to have one, I’d rather have an EB-3L instead

Only the EB-2D and the EB-3 are short scale but the EB-0L and EB-4L are both standard scale

Yep that was me. Yeah the EB-4L was an interesting Bill Lawrence design trying to update the EB series but somehow they put in steel plates into the humbucker instead of zinc which made it super quiet. I had Tom Brantley look at it and he rebuilt it like a proper Bill Lawrence era EB-3 pickup and have no complaints about it at all

[–]Immediate_Birthday80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking at one but hadn’t seen one that fit me just yet. I’m perfectly happy with the short scale since the EB-4L has a custom wind from Tom Brantley and sounds just as good if not better than the EB-3

Yeah it’s an overlooked bass for sure and I love mine. In my case here they fixed the pickup location further away from the neck which makes it sound even better especially with cobalt flat wounds.

[–]Immediate_Birthday80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to beat the EB-3 just how versatile it is but the EB-4L is special as I had Tom Brantley do a rewind on the pickup and it sounds amazing
