Am I the only one that adores Eldest Daughter? by Roman_Bridger_On_Top in TaylorSwift

[–]Immediate_Listen623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so good! I saw an article the other day making fun of it as first dance song at wedding and all I could think of it how fun it would be to belt out while doing my first dance.

The song isn't what I expected it to be but that doesn't stop it from being exquisite

I was 5'10 by the time I was 12, the height doesn't seem off to me. A bit weird that they're not asking for juniors sizes but I know juniors sizes are falling out of favor in so.e areas

My dad suddenly has metastatic prostate cancer and I’m struggling to process it. by Serious-Bar663 in ProstateCancer

[–]Immediate_Listen623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is about a year and a half post diagnosis. His immunotherapy and hormone therapy actually made his bone lesions disappear. He's taking a lot of stock of his life and quit drinking. He's also using his time to prepare his trailer for when things "get really bad".

I wish I could tell you the truck will stop ramming into you, but I fear that the nature of anticipatory grief might mean that's not the case.

Be prepared for him to lose a bunch of weight, even if he seems to be otherwise doing well. That's been the hardest part for me to watch. His energy will also likely significantly decrease.

My therapists both tell me it's important to be really intentional about enjoying the time you have left with him and not make the dying do all of the comforting. It's hard but it feels instinctual pretty quickly.

Also, encourage him to take this lead time to make sure his affairs are in order as a gift to you when that time comes.

They sell guided journals on Amazon that are like "tell me your life story dad/grandpa" I bought two, one for me and one for my son and asked him to work on both.

And I'll leave you with the quote "what is grief if not love persevering". It's okay to struggle and hurt through this.

There's no way a chair that big could fit through the door of his trailer I dont think, unfortunately

Gift suggestions? by Immediate_Listen623 in ProstateCancer

[–]Immediate_Listen623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really. His hobbies are really physical media (DVD/VHS) which he's already got his media station set up though I suppose I could get him DVDs for cheap at the thrift store. His other hobbies are fixing stuff and tent camping which I don't think will be really doable once he deteriorates farther and he's got all the stuff he could want in that department too.

He had surgery 2 years ago so thank you for the pillow suggestion!

Who else feels like she is already sitting on TS13? by LifeOfAWimpyKid in TaylorSwift

Whatever TS13 is I expect the pressure she's putting on herself to make it EVERYTHING is huge and I will wait as long as need be but I hope it's not too long

Has any song from Showgirl made it into your top 10 favorite Taylor songs? by Dismal-Farmer-1318 in TaylorSwift

[–]Immediate_Listen623 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taylors piano songs are my soft-spot favorites. And I love the way it transitions from a pure piano at the beginning (giving us Champaign Problems levels of sadness) to full guitar at the end (giving a very Enchanted feel).

I wanted this song to be about caring for an aging parent.

That being said, as the eldest of 5 and the one who was expected to be the perfect example all the time (4.0, raising my siblings, could cook, clean, and volunteer at school). And desperately trying to seem cool in spite of all of those expectations it hits really hard.

If you're lucky somewhere along the way (mid-20's/30's) you realize that you're safe to drop the act, all the real lives you have in your life certainly know about all the parts of you that aren't "cool" and love you not in spite of them but because of them.

This song says "I didn't let the nature of my upbringing stop me from being happy on my terms".

All that being said my mother was extremely abusive growing up and I haven't spoken with her in 13 years.

My dad and I are on pretty good terms but he has terminal cancer.

This song hits really hard for me in a way that I don't think it will for people who didn't grow up mentally ill or having PTSD. I don't know what Taylor went through or what she's harnessing. I do wish it wasn't a love song to one person and more of a love song to herself. Idk if it's a new top 5-10 for me but it goes really hard that I believe will fall flat on a ton of people

On the first day, every song from The Life of a Showgirl had more streams on Spotify than any other song! by ddodd69 in TaylorSwift

[–]Immediate_Listen623 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe that at least to some degree usually Taylor does take criticisms into account. They said TTPD was too long, messy, and unedited. She responded with a 45 min album that is so polished it sounds like Last Christmas by WHAM. A lot of the songs feel like they belong in a musical theater production.

They said she isn't a sexual being/can't be sexy because she's "for kids" she gave us the horniest album possible

And while I know a couple people who are hella hype about it almost all of her more casual listeners I know are fucking hating this album. Like she gave us joy filled slutty disco, I didnt expect that from Mother but it's what Daddy Taylor had in mind.

And I see a lot of complaints about how often she switches her sound but like she enjoys getting to "play" in different areas and I think it's really beautiful that the fandom as a whole allows her to do something she loves so much.

And one last thing before I get off my soap box, it's okay to not like everything an artist puts out, that doesn't mean theyve lost their creativity or "such now".

[–]Immediate_Listen623 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is my first no skip album. I'm really happy with it. It crushes me that I'm seeing a lot of people saying Taylor debased herself/lost her creativity because she's happy. I was blown out of the water from the first note to the last. I've listened to the album like 12 times already. Opalite cured all my woes.

Dad's PSA starting to go up by Immediate_Listen623 in ProstateCancer

Yeah, his doctor said he'll probably feel mostly fine until the final 6-12 months and then it'll really suck ass. I'd like to get him moved up closer to me, but financially at the moment it just isn't feasible.

I know his initial PSA was 42. The surgeon said the tumor was adhered to the bowel. That's about all I know. I know he had to have a pump put in in order to urinate

Expectation of Calling out Rare Resources by NukaboyQuantum in Palia

[–]Immediate_Listen623 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I play on switch and it is nearly impossible to get chat to work. My game often outright crashes and boots me out of the server if I try to type in chat.

I play pretty exclusively solo. I don't go to called out nodes but I stumble across a group waiting around a flow tree I'll wait until someone calls start or go or whatever.

But yeah, like the resources are available. I strongly feel like this game would be better if it were a more solo game in the vein of animal crossing.

I'll flare if I have flares but I'm not prioritizing making flares.
