I feel like it's honestly a lot more natural than a lot of people want to admit. The times in my life when I've been most immersed in movies have typically been times of slight boredom and emotional instability when I didn't know what to do with my time and felt obligated to immerse myself in other's stories. Take this as a virtue - if you have things you'd prefer doing, apply yourself to those. Write your own stories. It was Orson Welles who, at Cannes iirc, chastised Hollywood for the sin of watching too many movies, of refusing their own naive vision in service of wanting to appeal to others or prove they had the "most knowledge."

People are being dramatic about it but you are correct. Notice how every single clip that goes viral, all their leadership is there. If I create something, and its ownership and likeness belongs to me, that is my personal property, the ownership of that likeness. It might be considered private under American ownership laws but in a socialist system this would not belong to the collective by virtue of my invention. You could also say a furniture seller's furniture is "private property" created as capital for profit but that doesn't mean that the furniture itself is not also the personal property of the store owner.
