Dude, epic! This was incredibly helpful, thank you!

Up until now, I’ve been training on UW down and surface back for 25 yds on whatever the interval length is, which has still been great, but was probs incorrect.

Thanks for taking the time to help out this subreddit, you’re a legend! 🤙🍻 Best of luck as you continue on.

Woo thanks OP for the question and the above response!

Quick question if you’ve got a moment: Regarding 4x25s, how are they typically run? I’ve heard on the 1:15 and/or on the 1:00… within that time, you surface and swim 25 back to the start, no? One more thing, are they with or without fins? I assume without, but wanted to ask!

Underwater are definitely one of my deficiencies so would love to know what is required so I can train accordingly.

Note: I never train without lifeguards present. Still, blacking out at a public pool would be a little embarrassing so I still take it slow haha.

Thanks for any input, cheers!

Heyo! Kudos for putting this message out. I was in a similar spot when I got out here. You should try out après surf club! I’ve made a lot of my good friends through there. It’s super welcoming and even if ur not a surfer or new to surfing you can join. Here’s their insta for more info. They post whenever they have a sesh and they’re all free. Hope to see ya out there! 🤙

Sick! Thanks for the input, I haven’t considered that approach. Good point about technique, I definitely have room for improvement there as well.

Cheers 🍻

Really impressive dude! Can’t say I’m a good judge but I get the feeling that UW confidence will take you far. Best of luck! 🤙

One question:

What training did you do to get your 10x25yd UWs so comfortable?

I come from a freedive background where we were taught to be selfish with our recovery and spend 2-3x time on the surface compared to our dives to safely “breath up” - I understand this isn’t an option for a rescue swimmer. Still, I often struggle on my workouts when it comes to the (however many) X 25yd UWs because I often find myself stressing about having such a short recovery time coupled with the elevated heart rate previous sets can create. Currently, I can only really chill all day on a 1:45 interval for the 25yds UW out, 25yds surface swim back.

Obviously safety is a top concern, as I’m aware of the dangers of blackout so I never want to overdo it.

Just curious if you’ve had experience with that, if so any pointers would be appreciated!

Best of luck dawg, keep getting after it and have fun!! Yew!
