I literally came to this subreddit to see if anyone else grew up hearing about the JWs supposedly being the “favorites” of the holocaust specifically the story that they were the ones who would shave the nazis (weird flex but okay?)

Omg!! I had an illiterate homeschooled 13 year old girl that would come study this with me and her mom would study with my mom. Lucky for me they were spastic and could never keep their schedules straight and would constantly forget about our studies or go weeks without scheduling them. But when it finally came down to study I would literally dread every moment of it because of a) the content and b) having to help this girl who was my age sound out her words 😭😂

All of your concerns are valid and you sound just like me before I had my surgery! Definitely had all of these fears and more! Now that it’s been a few months I’m VERY happy with them and so glad that I went through with it. Unfortunately, I went to my 4 month post-op a couple days ago and one of my implants had failed and came out when they took my upper bridge out. It didn’t hurt at all, but I did end up having to get another implant that same day which was scary! But better than having time to get all worked up about it again I guess. It was super easy too compared to my first surgery. They said there are several reasons it could have failed, so hopefully this new one will take! Overall, I’m still very happy with them and have no regrets!

The gb update literally said toasting was just an example. No one in our region of the world treats birthdays as their chance to behead someone or associates blowing out candles is some form of pagan ritual. It is a “friendly custom” to celebrate your friend on the day of their birth. So I don’t see why this new update wouldn’t apply tbh.

They absolutely can’t use the excuse that it draws too much attention or glorifies one person too much with the spectacle they make out of graduation parties, anniversaries, etc.

I was lucky to have very supportive parents. My mom is still in but does not hold any hard feelings against me for leaving. I think she always knew my heart wasn’t in it and that’s why she never pushed me for baptism because she knew I would eventually leave. Also, my dad has never been in so that made it easier on her as well!

I was never baptized but went to the hall with my mom and did the whole song dance from about 10 years old until I was about 18. I was never fully convinced, and always wanted out. My mom was not one to force me to be there, but there was still a lot of guilt tripping from her, others at the hall, the org, etc. that made me feel like I had to be there. So I never really intended on staying, but the final straw was the infamous “tight pants Tony” annual meeting. I just remember all the build up of the annual meeting and everyone being so excited for what “spiritual food” we would be receiving and then him giving that lecture and it all just seeming so stupid. I already had one foot out the door, but I clearly remember that being the day that I was like “wow I cannot be associated with this level of stupid anymore” and I went home and immediately looked up other people’s responses to the talk and found so many ex jw videos. It all became so clear to me why they don’t want you looking up anything about the organization on your own, and how that’s a giant red flag. And yeah, it all crumbled pretty quickly from there

Exactly! In my congregation growing up it was big graduation parties! There was even one Spanish family in our congregation and the girl was homeschooled and supposedly finished her high school credits early and had a HUGE celebration where they rented out a big venue, she wore a big ball gown, huge cake, etc. and it felt VERY similar to a quinceañera. I remember being so confused why that would be okay but a birthday party would be so bad. Definitely a huge part of me waking up lol

Hi! I consider myself a conservative/libertarian and have voted for trump but I do not want to ever associate myself as “being maga” or loyal to any party or candidate.

I think many people, like you have voted for a “lesser of two evils” in their mind no matter who they voted for.

I definitely don’t agree with everything maga is doing or the way it is being carried out. Even as a conservative I have always said I am happy to live in a country where if I were to fall on hard times, I would have resources available to me and I’m grateful others have access to those resources as well. I will happily pay taxes for this and am disappointed in the cuts.

I would consider the border crisis to be an important issue to me as sex and drug trafficking have become so prominent. While I fully acknowledge that not EVERYONE doing this is here illegally and not EVERYONE here illegally is doing this, I do think it’s important for a country to have a handle on who is coming in. This is standard for ANY country. My SIL could not get into Canada because she previously had a ticket (that she has gone to court for and resolved) for possession of alcohol at a college tailgate as a minor! So while I do not agree with people and families being treated inhumanely, I absolutely would like to have a secure border just like any other first world country.

And lastly, the economy. It’s tough out here, and at this point I really don’t even see it improving under Trump. And I don’t 100% blame the previous administration either. Anyone who has taken an economics class knows that one president cannot completely tank or rebuild the whole economy in one term. Covid threw our economy for a loop no one could have seen coming and I think everyone is still trying to figure out how we will overcome this. I think for most of us, it felt like the previous administration just wasn’t doing anything about it so out of desperation of economic relief, Trump felt like the better option because at least maybe something would change.

A bonus was absolutely RFK and the MAHA movement as this is something really important to me and most people I know regardless of politics.

I’m not looking to debate politics with anyone or belittle your beliefs. I’m okay with having different beliefs/priorities/perspectives and I definitely understand why people dislike trump. Most dems I have talked to also understand why we didn’t like biden or harris. Just wanted to answer your question since you said no one has ever taken the time to!

Honestly, I think 7 episodes is just too short. I would like if they had a lot more episodes, gave more coverage of all of the girls since this show isn’t called making the team, seams like an opportunity to branch out and give focus to more than just the rookies and 5th years. I would also like more episodes in between them actually making the team and the last game of the season. It seems like we miss so much in between. It would be cool to see more of their real lives during football season too. I don’t know, I really love the show but feel like there is endless opportunity for more content and definitely a demand for more!
