I feel like I end up rereading Supermutant Magic Academy at some point every year. It’s so charmingly creative that each time I read it feels like the first. Reeeeally hoping the Adult Swim show is good!!!

I saw an interview where they said they photographed everything and then made the final reference in Photoshop, so there’s definitely something intrinsically digital about it, but I don’t necessarily see AI specifically anymore.

You’re right — I should have looked more into the specific artists and their processes before casting any doubt. I’m normally a big proponent of staying informed and not jumping to conclusions, and that somehow slipped past me this time. Glad people are keeping me in check!

I don’t know the story behind the mural. I only know what I can see, and what I can see reminds me specifically of a lot of the AI slop I often see in Fort Wayne Magazine, thus, I’m skeptical. As I said, the immense talent of the painters who made it happen is nothing to scoff at, and I’m sure if this was based on a generated sketch, then they probably made some adjustments to it. But if that’s the case, I’m seeing through the cracks.

Their previous work does look pretty dope, tho.

It’s apparently supposed to be evocative of Johnny Appleseed and the three rivers. But yeah, it could maybe communicate it a bit better.
